My brother, whose 60th birthday party was tonight, and sister were at the Last Waltz at Winterland and just brought that up tonight. That must have been a pretty cool event to be present for. Both of my sisters were at the infamous Altamont concert with the Stones (telling my parents they were at a quilting bee). They left before the Stones played because it was such chaos. Probably a good thing.

That's pretty cool. Not quite The Last Watlz, my brother was at Watkins Glen for the Dead, Brothers and The Band. I used to have a tee shirt he brought back for me.

"More Kissing In Porn Please, We're British" is my nominee for song title of the year.

Also: Altamont > Quilting Bee.

Cool stories, bros. :D

And Hurdy-Gurdy as well as some other instruments I don't recognize:

Good stuff Dusty! Especially love the instruments on the first one.

Just ordered them. I'll let you know. But the consensus online seems to be they are very good.

I have their latest album here and it's the first where they didn't record to analog tape. But even that still sounds much, much better on the vinyl than on the accompanying CD.

Sweet, I'll await your thoughts. Analog recording + KG must be good though :)

For those that don't know, Neal Casal is a member of the Cardinals, Ryan Adams band of more recent years. I've listened to this record a few times and its pretty good. Much sweeter sounding then typical Cardinals stuff, which honestly isn't always to my liking, but the guy can certainly pen a tune.

I actually streamed it off Lala before buying, liked it pretty well, and I had a gift card laying around which knocked the price down to under two bucks.

Taking recommendations from our Best of 2009 thread and other similar ones, and buying some things I already liked but did not own, I went a little nuts at Amoeba tonight. Quite a few were available used, luckily.
