$1000 speaker rig, what would you get?

Featured Replies

Everything from the source (minus computer if you're using one) to the amps to the speakers, what would you get?

Well, I sold my Emu ;) so I'll probably be using the SB (which is far more awesome then then EMU)

PC + no iphone/itouch = no fun remote

PC + squeezebox = fun remote :D

maybe a modded out litedac or something close (given your computer has a digi line out), and some active monitors with just corners being treated...

should be under $1000...

I'd get a compact system.

Squeezebox 3

I'd go alon l speakers used from audiogon a $100 receiver and $300/400 dac again used of audiogon

Ascend 170 are very nice bookshelf speakers at $350 new. They come up on Agon for a lot less. If you're using them nearfield, a $60 Sonic Impact T-Amp from Parts Express will get you to to earbleed levels.

I like what I have now but I would replace the NAD C320BEE and PP-1 I have with a NAD C3020.

Micro Seiki MB-14 table - $135

NAD C3020 - ~$200.. I remember prices

Castle Pembroke speakers - $340

$675 isn't bad and that Micro Seiki table kills the Zhaolu 2.5A I had.

M-Audio Transit + some active monitors, perhaps Quad 12L's if you don't mind needing a sub (which you should get later, otherwise it will put you over), or something else that has level control (not the Mackie HR824 -- they have input sensitivity controls, which is not the same thing, although with the Mackies, then you wouldn't need a sub).

the Mackie 824 Ive heard at Guitar Center were by far the best sounding monitors there (even including the dynaudios)

I'm kind of confused why no one is recommending floor standing speakers. I thought they would be a better value then bookshelves

I've always assumed the opposite to be true; w/ floorstanders, it would seem that more money would have to go towards enclosure height. Bookshelves could have the same money go towards drivers or enclosure material.

Probably because we're confused by another thread that said they were for a desktop system.

Actually, Mackie came out with a tiny little version of their biggest selling mixer -- the 402VLZ3 -- that could be used as a preamp, for only US$100.

ha, I have no idea right now. I just made this thread to see what people think

I'll keep you updated since I still havent gotten paid for the emu

I only want to know whether or not to begin the task of putting it back into my rack :)

ahh, ummm uhhh ummmmm uhhhhh

i dunno :(

No big deal. If I put it back in, I charge you a $50 labor fee :)

That what the obstetrician said. I wish I'd taken him up on it.
