What are you two talking about? Nate has probably the most varied tastes of anyone on this board, and that's coming from a contender.

Yes, he certainly likes all kinds of different things that aren't jazz.

Stretch speaketh the truth. Jazz and I are generally not friends and I enjoy bashing it given the, well, unabashed love that some have for it. Jarrett's Koln Concert is a favorite though so when I saw the article linked the other day with a new, allegedly superb live performance I decided to give it a listen. Results so far have been mixed.

What about fusion? Al Di Meola (specifically Elegant Gypsy, Casino), Jeff Beck (Wired, Blow by Blow, There and Back), Return to Forever (Romantic Warrior)? What about the old melodic stuff like The Birth of the Cool (Miles Davis) and Somethin' Else (Cannonball Adderley)? What about Cookin'/Steamin'/Walkin'/&c.?

And yes, I did know that, had forgotten, I think we-all even had this exact same conversation before. (Peter: defends Nate's taste as varietous; someone else: No argument, it's just that he hates jazz; Nate: Yeah, I hate jazz.) :palm:

Keith Jarrett is one of the few that I can digest and enjoy. Probably in large part due to my love of the piano.

As usual not my business but I cant stop myself from thinking that I realy love jazz and strangely enough I usually dont like (with rares exceptions):

Jazz+voices,

Jazz + any kind of trumpet, sax, etc

Jazz+ guitars

Jazz+ any kind of electro acoustic devices

Jazz+ big bands (meaning 4 and up musicians)

But in the end I love piano so much I have specialized my jazz CDs collection around:

1) Piano solos,

2) Piano trios (the usuals suspects)

And just with these two specific preferences I can find around the world more titles than I can afford to buy/listen.

So Mr. Maher despite being cautious about the title you are obviously a jazz fan....;)

Amicalement
