I'll definitely be making sure that the area around it is masked off with masking tape before starting. The SR-71's are finished in terms of paint, all that's left is the routing and painting of the baffles, along with the mounting of the parts on the back.

Had a massive failure on my part today, when routing the countersink for the tweeter I cut it as 4 1/4" instead of 4 1/8" so there's now a gap of 1/8" between the tweeter flange and baffle. Unfortunately I don't have the time right now to redo the baffle so I'll press on and finish it as is. It's a good thing I decided to go with a removable baffle :)

My suggestion would be to cut it even larger and make a contrasting ring of wood outside the tweeter so that it looks intentional.

Good idea! Will probably have to use a rabbet bit to cut the countersink larger, but it should be workable! Thanks for the idea!

That Nate is a smart fellow!

That's exactly what I would do. It'll be a nice feature too.

That Nate is a smart fellow!

Watch out Vince Vaughn already has a huge head!

It is worth noting that in order to provide the above "smart" suggestion one must also have made the same dumb mistake. That reminds me of one of my favorite quotes (paraphrased), "Good judgment comes from experience. Experience comes from bad judgment."

I noticed that smartNate had the same approach to mistakes that a certain drummer friend of mine had -- if he made a mistake, he repeated it, so it would seem like it was done on purpose.

He was universally regarded as an amazing drummer.

Nate smart!

He also has some of my gear. Hince the ass kissing remarks. :P

That would look quite nice!(Nate's sugestion)
