Ah - the good old battleship grey Cambridge Audio livery. It was panned by the reviewers, as were the buttons on the CD player (they described them as reminiscent of poking dead flesh). Very unfair, b

  • I dunno, can i post this here? The leather was just an idea - making some matching wood pulls would be cool - maybe when things die down at M&O of course my speaker cables are too short

Just a mini.

Insert TICE joke of choice here.

That would be an awesome speaker for your Eyes Wide Shut style cult fuck-mansion, for the days when the pianist can't make it, or whatever.

Looks a bit like a Workmate mated with a bandsaw, and this was the result

A speaker to give you nightmares - give me a kiss right on my midrange horn

And how would you explain a pair of these to your partner...

This love child is very cool looking in person and is the best speaker system I have ever heard anywhere.

At $280,000.00 + subs which are absolutely necessary, I can only fantasize about them. I must say though that the Walnut or Cherry versions are the only way to go.

Interesting linear profile - turns out that the radiation pattern for a (infinte) linear horn is exactly the same as a pulsating sphere. I actually had to look that up, because I'd never heard of a linear profile horn before https://www.grc.com/acoustics/an-introduction-to-horn-theory.pdf

And sorry but it still looks like a workmate screwed onto a pallet, with a few bits and bobs welded on,  whatever it sounds like.

I like the industrial look. It's true to form, and I believe that a more stylized carriage would only detract from the beauty of the wooden horns. And that is where the beauty lies IMO. I think there are better looking versions though...

Personally, I'd choose Cherry wood with the Black frame.

And it looks like OMA has a new speaker! Want!

Without research, it looks like a Heill AMT with a 12" woofer. Having owned the ESS AMT 1D's, I can attest to how good that combo can be.

EDIT: Indeed it is a Heill AMT unit and 12" woofer. However, it is not an NOS AMT, but rather a new unit, built for OMA in Germany. Nice!

PS: That's a solid slate baffle.

It's called aptly "Monitor". I can't find a price but if I ever win the lottery...

I'd love to hear those!  The OMA slate is beautiful stuff in person.

The AMT unit is the best midrange I've ever heard! The bass of the ESS speakers was a little loosey goosey but I'd imagine the OMA's would be glorious.

Holy crap, I've never wanted a speaker more.

It's probably a lot more inert than you're making it sound.

When did we change the subject to my sex life?

The subject is always your sex life, even though it has its ins and outs.

Seriously though, those blonde wood OMA Monitors would match my new desk eerily perfectly. They say "mid-field" and boundary reinforcement would likely be an issue with the big woofers, but maybe on risers and about 6-1/2 feet back from my earholes might work?

I'm going to guess them to be about 22" wide x 26" tall. They are large! I'm imagining sitting atop a desk, no riser would be needed. I'm not sure that the name "Monitor" should be taken as desktop monitor.  I think you'd want to be at least 8' back. Those AMT units have a wide dispersion but sound best further back. At least with my old ESS's.

Yeah, just noodling. Think I'll have about 6" of free air space behind the desk so could also push any speakers back there on tall stands. Probably a discussion for another thread ...

Slate is a great baffle material. Inert and highly damped. I'm actually thinking of replacing the upper baffle on my LX521's with slate. My local "Monumental Mason" Abingdon Slate and Marble made a superb plinth for my Garrard 401, so they have the capability to do a great job.

^ My dream TT also has a slate plinth. The same slate as the "Monitor", as this TT is put together by OMA as well...

It is SP10 based.

I would love to see your 401. And agree that the slate would be a very effective, as well as beautiful baffle.

Now, a wealthy man like yourself could probably commission OMA to build you a smaller version, using the smaller AMT and an 8" midwoofer.

;)

PS: I thought Oskar Heil was spelled with one L, it seems that OMA misspelled his name (and I followed suit).

Yes, I know. OMA spells it with 2 Ls on their website.
