Liquor from Scotland - Gin!

Featured Replies

Not a gin connoisseur by any means, but I have recently been drinking it some with dinners. Usually with tonic and lime.

Just went out to a nice place last night, and ordered Bombay Sapphire. Waitress, a gin lover herself (and dang cute!), recommended one I had only heard of but never learned about or tried: Hendricks of Scotland

Distilled with flowers and cucumbers!:rolleyes: I took her recommendation, though, and glad I did! Was a very smooth yet flavorful gin, with none of the pseudo-paint-thinner scent I've smelled before, even a bit on some of the best gins.

Highly recommended....will likely get a bottle for myself, first hard alcohol I've bought since Absenthe became legal again in the US.....

Blackwoods is the superior gin. Hendricks is the more individual gin.

Hendricks in both of my freezers atm. I guess I should try Blackwoods, but Junipero is still my favorite all time.

Indeed? :P

Actually, thanks, I'll check out Blackewoods as well.....

Plymouth Navy Strength is worth a try. Do be judicious with the dosage, though. ;)

Blackwoods 40% or 60%? Never tried any of them, nor the Hendricks. I rarely drink gin, always with tonic, but I can appreciate the good ones having a taste more refined than mostly alcohol.

Is it me or is something wrong with the label? It says "100 Proof" near the top and "57% Vol" at the bottom. "57% Vol" is 114 Proof, assuming it's talking about the alcohol content. If it's not talking about that, what is it talking about.

English proof is determined by weight, not volume.

In the United States, the proof of an alcoholic beverage is twice its alcohol content expressed as percentage by volume at 60

The more you know ... :D

The English are using a French system? Who'd a thunk it? :P

Thanks for the education. I'd never heard of Gay-Lussac before.

Au contraire. As in many other areas, they are alone among their fellow Europeans in scorning the Ghey-Ballsack method. ;)

English proof ...

British =/= English.

Collectively or individually? please be more specific.

I'd agree with you on the tight skirted jocks, though.

Bumping this ol' thread.....doesn't look like Blackwoods is even available in the USA (?)

I'd be surprised if any of the UK online stores would ship to USA, or even if they do if it's worth the $.

Any suggestions? Anyone coming over to the USA (Northeast) for a visit? ;D

I'll actually keep an eye out for a local who is going there, too.....

My suggestion is drink what is at hand. Hendricks. Junipero. Boodles makes a smoove martini. Old Raj.

But I'm an Audiophool! I have to have the FOTM....even in my gin! :D

Gin's FOTM is always "drunk".

"Brasky drank a full glass of liquid LSD with his eggs. Then he slept for 8 months straight. When he woke he rubbed his eyes and said, 'All in all, I prefer gin.'"
