September 30, 200916 yr I was looking around the Naim forums last night and saw someone mention that there is a discount for pre-ordering the new DAC. Anyone else hear the same thing from a dealer etc? Link added: http://forums.naim-audio.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/48019385/m/4322951527 Edited September 30, 200916 yr by veloaudio link
October 4, 200916 yr This doesn't have balanced outputs?Julian Vereker believed balanced operation to be the work of Satan.
October 4, 200916 yr IIRC the PMD200 is actually a blackfin DSP (like the one the Naim is using) so it looks like they've re-created the PMD200 somehow... I hope the USB stick/ipod input have been done properly - me likes not having to worry about SPDIF. Nah PMD200 is a piece of code they stuck on 1 of 4 pieces of hardware the best of which and most common being a black fin. Thus it may not be the PMD200 code on it even if it does HDCD. Would have to see inside shots to see if it has PMD200 stamped on it.. I doubt they could straight up "recreate" it without some sort of licensing... which they may have done. Dunno.
October 4, 200916 yr Julian Vereker believed balanced operation to be the work of Satan. Very few of the European manufacturers have balanced connectors on their gear and if they do, they are SE. Naim is special though since they believe the RCA connector to be evil...
October 4, 200916 yr It is! But not as evil as BNC feh BNC!whatever for analog but for S/PDIF, BNC is the *only* termination which actually meets the design spec of the interface.......
October 5, 200916 yr BNC = British Naim Connector. Hey, it's still better than the DIN connectors on my old Naim stuff.
October 10, 200916 yr I'd like to demo this thing sometime... about when can we expect it to trickle to American dealers? Is it already here? I don't really check in with the audio stores much.
October 13, 200916 yr Which French company is that? Thanks Dude...if you cared to read around and just maintain an average general knowledge about audio...there are barely a few hi end french audiophile companies. The one he is talking about AND owns is the Audio Aero Capitole, a ridiculously non-digital sounding source. The french nailed it with the sound signature.

October 15, 200916 yr Thanks dude, I only though of it after I posted. No wonder Audio Aero is so high recommended here... Yep. That is all we do here, shill our own equipment.
October 15, 200916 yr Yep. That is all we do here, shill our own equipment. Quad is awesome you say? I quite concur.
October 15, 200916 yr I pimp my shit all the time... Yay Sonic Frontiers and Audio-Technica and such.
October 15, 200916 yr I'd like to see more info on how they do the I/V. Kind of weird that they use PCM1704-K and then their spec is roughly TI's spec of the ordinary grade chip using a suboptimal NE5534-based I/V. On the other hand, if it's just noise (such as big fb resistor to accomodate the -6dB attenuation spec'd by Pac Micro), then I guess that's understandable. In any case, not suggesting it'll sound worse, but if they're using an op-amp based output something reasonably well optimised should be able to meet the K spec. If not, well then I especially want to know more! TI's spec for the chip is arguably a bit conservative, too, at least based on my experience with this chip *shrug*. Anyway, would like moar infos.
October 28, 200916 yr Anyway, would like moar infos. http://www.naim-audio.com/download/Naim_DAC_White_Paper_Aug_2009.pdf (Can't remember if this has been posted in another thread already. I found it interesting anyway.) Edited October 28, 200916 yr by Hopstretch
October 29, 200916 yr Okay. That more or less spelled it out. Thanks So Filburt, what's the ruling? Good design? Edited October 29, 200916 yr by grawk
