The Live Music Thread
Goddamn. Iron Maiden played Boston last night. For ...over 45 years, they have been consistently one of the best if not the best live shows in all of metal. I follow them on FB, like an unc (as the kids say.) They posted these photos: Wish I could have gone. Paradoxically, but unsurprisingly, it's much, much easier to get to BOS from W.Mass than it is from MV.

I don’t think it sticks into the market beyond a bunch of users getting it for showing off their status. Wait…🤔🥸

I have an iPad Pro. Multitasking on it sucks. I don’t see how this makes it better. My understanding is that foldable devices up to this point have been sales flops. Maybe this turns the category around. Apple thought they could turn around VR and that doesn’t seem to have gone to plan so who knows.

A good friend of mine mained a Samsung Galaxy Fold for years. He said it kept him from needing to replace his laptop (which died) for quite some time. There were a bunch of obvious and not so obvious limitations. Case selection was a big one at first. Also, some apps just don't play nice on the big screen. Linus of Tech Squeaks ran a newer Fold for a while and he said the same thing. Of course, AAPL has clout with app makers that not even Samsung can muster. I'll be a bunch of developers will make it a point to update their app for the iFold here. I would never buy one (I hate smrt phnes and view them as a necessary evil at best) but I will watch how the saga of Apple's last geegaw, ahem, unfolds.

I haven't found ones I really like, I settled on some pads off Aliexpress that arrived incorrectly so I'm not sure what listing would link to them. They are 105mm and perforated on the inside which isn't ideal but seem to work okey.

I will buy a set but if they sound like the originals... I probably won't like them. The HE90 has always left me cold, despite how many I've tried. The HEV90 doesn't fix them either, it just muddies up the sound... seriously the input cap on those is a very nasty electrolytic cap. How that is high end is beyond me... That being said, I've been slowly working on my own clone of the HE90 for a couple of years now. They will never be sold to anybody, just a very stupid and crazy expensive DIY project to fix the HE90's. I have some NOS headbands for them but I'm currently designing a new headband which has more range (as the stock ones barely fit me) and looks like the original. New drivers too but I've only sent out for the first prototype parts for those.- STAX SR-X9000 Failure Rate Survey
Of the current day Stax electrostatics that I've opened up, all of them will fail eventually. They are making stupid design decisions which are just a net negative and they should switch back to mylar for the film as the PEEK just doesn't work.Cleve joined the communityHegoDamask started following Shawn- What are you listening to Part the Third

The imbalance issue is a common issue with all electrostatic headphones, as they are highly sensitive to dust and humidity. As for the X9000, according to feedback from the friend above, his X9000 that had a unit replaced after repair has been operating normally for 3 years so far, so it can be inferred that Stax is also improving its manufacturing process. A more likely scenario is that the products of the majority of users who remain silent are all problem-free—it is just that those who have encountered problems have spoken out, coupled with manufacturing issues in early batches. I consulted a local dealer who has sold more than 10 units of the X9000, and none of them had problems within the warranty period. Of course, he does not know the situations after the warranty expires.HegoDamask started following spritzerHegoDamask started following The Headcase Stax thread- The Headcase Stax thread
@spritzer are you excited for the ES Labs HE90 clone? Will likely run on 580V but same materials, stator and membrane thickness etc...is it something you look forward to or is HE90 still just okay next to 007 Mk1 etc :) - The Knuckledragger 3rd Memorial Slow Forum Post
