  2. As a metalhead I'm gonna say This Is Spinal Tab... May he and his wife rest in peace. They were stabbed to death in their residance. WTF?! https://abcnews.go.com/US/2-found-dead-los-angeles-home-owned-director/story?id=128403864
  3. Today
  4. I'm gonna go with the The Princess Bride. Saw in theaters in '86 and have watched it periodically throughout the decades. Andre the Giant said he was happiest on the set of that film. It was the one time he felt normal.
  5. Man. So many classics of his it is hard to pick a favorite. Probably Harry and Sally, but Stand by Me also right there for me.
  6. RIP Marty DiBergi...
  7. Was just reading that in the news. Pretty crazy, apparently someone disliked it way more than you.
  8. What the actual fuck? https://people.com/rob-reiner-dead-all-in-the-family-director-8653589 Just watched Spinal Tap II last night and was disappointed. But I didn't do it. ☹️

wow... intense! and awesome, looks like some fun kit Grawk *goes back to boring out a skull*
  10. Glad to see Alton Brown is back. Was a big fan of his original show.
  11. Had not made empanadas in a while. Decided that needed fixing so I defrosted some left over carnitas and that was that. Well, first I made a double batch of dough so I could make them more hand-pie sized. This was half of them.
  12. Finally getting around to American Gods, picking up where I left off (starting season 2).
  13. Windy Folk with a Brit twist. And just to shake things up
  14. Alton back doing Alton things - Alton cooks food...
  15. Yesterday
  16. My plate was almost as decadent
  17. Al and I just prepared Eggs Benedict for the Mayberry compound. I may have overdone it. See you all after a brief food coma.

A recording engineer friend of mine (drivin' n cryin' is one of the bands he records) swears by the Cascade Fethead ribbons

I don't have experience with a lot of ribbons, but I was fortunately stopped from going down that rabbit hole by my local professional musician friend, Dave, many years ago. There are a lot of ... not good ribbon mics in the budget area. And yes, I know "DIY" ≠ budget, but since ribbon mics are so easy to get wrong, I wouldn't. I have my beloved Shure KSM313, which I would recommend for string ensembles (and vocals, which was going to be my primary application), but they are not cheap, and a matched pair will be even worse. Instead of ribbons, you would do well getting a matched pair of large condensers, like a Rode NT2A. (I have two, but they're not matched...that said, if you're not adamant about imaging, you can always do a Blumlein pair, which doesn't require a matched pair, and yields a very comfy stereo playback experience.) General comment for both of you: I would recommend listening to grawk over me on this subject, he has far more experience in this. I even still have some of his hand-me-downs.

My only ribbon experience is kinda theoretical at this point. I bought a nohype stereo ribbon but haven’t found the right place to use it yet.

Thoughts on the Bumblebee DIY ribbons? I would use them for small string ensemble recording i have heard and really liked AEA R88, Royer SF24 and Coles 4038 ..
  23. Fritz!
  24. Brent is going to be so pissed off that you used his Olivia Newton John sweat bands. Keep up the good work! Also...
  25. Warren Haynes Christmas Jam 2025
  26. I think most sound cards are ok. I haven’t researched much because I trust apogee and my main concern is capture, and I have the best in the world for that
