  2. One man's porn is another man's treasure!
  3. Yep exactly the same ones, I'll upload some pictures. I was somehow expecting it, because I remember reading this a while ago. I forgot it was only 1 page back though I'll go with the recommended replacements from Kemet ALC10A681EL550 Unless there is new insight on something better. I would prefer a wider and less tall Cap due to the space in the chassis.
  4. This is hardly porn, but... I got a Velodyne CHT powered sub for the low price of "you're first in line, come pick it up" today. #MVLife
  5. I’ll be honest, I had never heard of this guy but this is a hell of an obit! https://www.nytimes.com/2025/05/14/science/richard-l-garwin-dead.html
  6. Sorry to hear this! Was this a blue one from the earlier group buys, like these? I am using the black Kemet caps and always for 105°C
  7. Today one of the 680 uF caps blew in my carbon The wife asked if a balloon popped and I knew immediately what happened. The carbon was on pretty much all day, I forgot to turn it off. And I put the megatron on top of it, which doesnt help for the heat dissipation either. I have the AL-Elko SI4P from Al electrolytic (680 uF, 550V). What is the advise for replacement for these currently as others have had also these issues? E.g. replace all? And any recommendations on the best brand at this moment.
  8. "Nice system, but does it have enough power?"
  9. Expensive Shit by Fela Kuti (1975) https://album.link/wnq0mtcswj66r Example: Influential 50yo two track album. Enjoyed the groove.
  10. The Go-Gos played the Warfield Theater in San Francisco last night. Kathy Valentine posted these shots to her Bluesky account:
  11. Working on a shrunk CFA3 layout this week, here is what it looks like. Haven`t tested it yet. The dim is about 8.6 inches * 3 inches per channel. Not small enough, but I bet someone can make it better by SMDing.
  12. Davóne Tines & The Truth's tribute to Paul Robeson (from Davóne's one-man play). Ex.

  14. My condolences Steve. May she rest in peace. I'm glad you reached her. She passed away with peace of mind. Glad you could have a phone call. So sorry for your loss again...

  17. Thanks for comment and link to ROHM document, @simmconn. Very much appreciated. That test had obviously no chance to be successful.
  18. Not so great smash burger action shots from the niece
  19. The TO-220 version of the 10M90S is readily available, so there's really no need to consider alternatives for now. Better to stick with what’s proven to work.
  20. I saw The Waterboys (although it might have been just Mike Scott solo at that point with a backing band) live at the Hammersmith Odeon in 1994. They kicked ass. As they do here.
  21. Not exactly the same part but being the same package they are more in common that they are different: https://fscdn.rohm.com/en/products/databook/applinote/ic/power/linear_regulator/to252_thermal_resistance_information_an-e.pdf In the final stage CCS, the 10M90S is dissipating 8W to 9W. The theta-JA needs to get down to single digit °C/W in order for the junction to stay comfortably within spec, not to mention that the output DC offset thermal drift has always been our enemy. TO-252 is not going to get you there. Also, even if the copper is well coupled with the aluminum angle, the tiny cross section would still give considerable thermal resistance. You are right in that it is just like the Ohm's law. With theta-JC being 3.1 already, there is not a lot of slack to play with. I think IXYS is being sloppy when it comes to thermal specs in the 10M90S datasheet, by specifying only one number for both packages. With some other parts having about 2x theta-JC in TO-252 than in TO-220, I doubt IXYS can do that much better.

  23. A few years late, but RIP Cris Hassold, professor at New College of Florida A Professor’s Final Gift to Her Students: Her Life Savings https://www.nytimes.com/2025/05/11/us/cris-hassold-professor-new-college-will.html?unlocked_article_code=1.Gk8.lsgk.I-V-0Fygppww&smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare (Gift article)
  24. I got as far as buying a griddle plate to go on my gas grill a little while ago, but not as far as actually taking it out of the box yet. Keep posting!
  25. Since I don’t know how to calculate the thermal resistance between to-252 and heat sink out into free air I made this small test. I got a clear answer. I do know Ohm's law though.
  26. * Cough *
  27. Sophie brought two babkas on her last visit: a nutella and a cinnamon and neither was the lesser. To quote another Seinfeld, they were real and they were spectacula!
