TBH I bought a can last year and have not used it yet. There's lots of info on DIYAudio. Keep us posted if you try it. Ach, thought you were mentioning Licron. Keep us posted anyway
-
Interesting, I'll see if I can find that locally. Do you apply it with an airbrush or a sponge?

And so, yesterday was the great day of final close in the enclosure, it played flawlessly for a couple of hours, I came back at it for some music after dinner and PAM! A resistor burnt down with sparks and a flame in the region of DN2540 in the B+ board. Me sad . Have to tear it down again to investigate about arcing or whatnot, a nice picture of the event, so that you can smell that burnt chicken flavour š More importantly, forgot to say that that PAM took along my DAP, as if a 450V discharged to ground suddenly, and my Fiio player (5 yo thanks God) broke down, not to restart anymore. One more thing to repair. š I've seen someone experienced something similar, but mainly in the amp board, never on the HV one. Possible cause?

Paralleling a 3.3k resistor with the original 1.5k gave an effective resistance close to 1k, which I expected to behave similarly to using a single 1k resistor. After doing that, the offset increased significantly from around +12V to about +60V. So in the end, I reverted back to the original 1.5k setting resistor.

Why not use Licron crystal which seems to be the preferred coating for people making ESL speakers?
-
Can you share a little more details? Any picture what you are using, how much of it?
-
Aumkar suggested using "Comfort" fabric softener for coating, and I have been using it for a few months now. It works very well.

Iāll have to tinker a bit more and see. For now Iām just shooting native to see what comes straight out of the camera. Iād love to have enough time to tinker with raw files but reality is that I donāt, so I try not to kid myself into taking them and then having to deal with the massive file bloat. Honestly, if theyād followed through with the A7IV this year like originally planned that probably would have been the camera of choice. The A7IV has been game-changing for me. Itās got all the resolution that I need, exceptional low-light capabilities, and was not hard to adapt to coming from Nikon. This stuff is still mind-numbingly expensive but life has moved on to the point where it was not an impossible reach to pick one up. -

After paralleling with a 3.3K resistor an increase of a few mA seems reasonable, but what happened to the offset? -
Thanks for the correction. I actually paralleled a 3.3k resistor with the existing 1.5k CCS set resistor, which gives an effective resistance of around 1031Ī©. Based on the measured voltage drop, that gives me roughly 24ā25mA of current. I believe the difference might come from my cathode resistor and grid voltage setup ā possibly the cathode current is already limited before reaching the CCS. That might be why the current didnāt rise as much as expected even with the lower set resistor.

It was antistatex spray, it was what I had at hand and could use in a small dosage. I went away today and when I arrived home again the imbalance was back. Might not be as bad but yeah, not a good fix.

Because in the UK they'd just be rubbish gods?

Why do the trash gods not smile on me in the same way?
-
Hey Spritzer, what are you using to coat the X1ās diaphragm?
-
Holy shitballs! He found those in the trash...???!!! I've owned a couple Legacy speakers in my days: The Legacy Classic (Kevlar midrange edition, I think that was the second version of it), Karen actually got it for me as our engagement gift! Then very briefly the Signature 3's, and then the Studio HD's. I also remember going to a Head-Fi'er acquaintances place south of Boston, he had a pair of Legacy Focus (Focii?), driven by Krell KMA-100 mono's and a nice VAC preamp. Don't even remember his front end. That combo filled a small room surprisingly well! Such full sound, top to bottom; but still very relaxed and effortless sounding. The Whispers are nice-looking, would love to hear them. Also had read about a less deep bass response....
-
This is absolutely crazy. Th Those are Legacy Whispers. I'm enough of a nerd to remember when they came out in the early 90s. They were Legacy's statement model. They're actually not as bassy as the Focus model (which I have coveted for 35 years now) but they excel in more or less every other aspect. Of course, the way to get around the lack of bass is:

Congrats and nice shots! Curious how the low light noise would compare if you shot the A7R5 in 26MP or 15 modes (or even downsampled the 60MP to 24)? -

Yeah, pretty much. I was clearing up and found the broken X1's so time to do some tinkering. Sure enough, one driver started failing after an hour or so it's trash at this point... time for something drastic. I opened them up and nothing looks wrong so I just added some coating to the diaphragm, just a tiny bit. It's been an hour now and they sound pretty much balanced so this might have worked but it adds another issue, are Stax having coating issues 65 years in? Another thing about the X1, the drivers are wired out of phase as in the + signal goes to the back stator. Might be worth adding a cheater plug to these to reverse the phase to try out and the earpads on the X1 are clearly made by the same company as the 007S pads.

Work has been continuing to use photos that Iāve been shooting for publicity and Congressional communication so I decided that rather than keep shooting with my personal camera that it was high time to request a replacement. They asked what I wanted so I specād the following: 1. Body - Sony A7R5 - Iāve gotten used to the Sony ecosystem through my A7IV and figured what the heck, might as well have all the megapixels. I donāt need 120FPS so the A9 series was not compelling and while it would have been fun to shoot with an A1II budget was somewhat of a consideration. 2. Lenses - Iāll continue to shoot my A7IV with itās 24-240mm so figured I should cover an expanded range with this rig and be able to shoot high(er) quality. So a 24-70mm F2.8 GMII and a 100-4000mm F4.5/5.6 coupled with a 2x teleconverter round out the bag. Iāve got the whole shebang with me on vacation to get used to the platform and find its limits (me) but sheesh, 60MP is a lot to work with. Initial impression is that itās all very similar to the A7 but doesnāt shoot low light as well. That wonāt be much of a concern at work and if/when night time becomes the right time Iāll switch back to my A7 for those situations. The 100-400 has as lot of pull and with the 2x, itās pretty absurd. That was lightly touched in LR and just a quick handheld at sunset. Iāll have to contribute more to the HC coffers if I start pushing up 40MB drink photos. And 12,800 starts to get a bit noisy so Iāve reduced the max ISO to 3200 for now to see what I can still grab. And [EDIT] seems like the forum software intelligently down-sampled that image to a more manageable 5MB. It is wild what you can do for fun crops with this much real estate. -

Glad you find a way to adjust the offset. With EL34 as CCS, +400V and offset close to zero, I believe 1.5K gives ~23mA and 1.0K gives ~34mA.
