So I've always understood the term PRaT to somehow be associated with punchiness and speed; I've always thought "fast" when somebody says PRaT. But when I'm listening to the HP2, it almost feels like it is one small step slower rhythm wise then its younger wooden cousin the RS-1, and this slight step back in pace results in perfect timing with the music. What are your favorite cans for classical? For me, the HD650 still reigns supreme. I admit, sometimes I do listen to classical on the HP-2, but it does seem to lack the space and bottom end "oomph" that these ears crave on large orchestral works. I have tried, tried, tried so many times with the HD600, but it just doesn't do it for me. I thought the Dynahi might officially "wake them up" for me, but they are just too dry and boring. If the HD600 is a waxy hershey's kiss, the HD650 is a giant gob of dark godiva.

Until I get my isolation booth set up in my house (no, it's not a joke), I need a set of headphones that block out the neighbors. If I hear "You cheat on me again and I'll knock your fucking teeth out!" interrupt Beethoven's 9th one more time, I think I'll scream What would you guys say is the best set of closed cans? I'd prefer balanced and am definitely open to mods.

Basically i got this huge wad of cash, and i need your advice on how to spend it. I don't want to do anything too silly. I was thinking of getting a few happy meals at mcdonalds... then maybe spluring the change on pennies i can throw out the window of my car. I was thinking also, maybe i can pickup an airhorn. I can use it inapropriate times (ex funerals, in the bathroom at my office when some guy is in the can). You guys think i should get a source? What kind of source can i get for that kinda scratch???

Man, that ringing still won't go away. It's not bad, fairly low level, but it's persistant. Went to see the doctor and told him I got some new headphones; he said "Oh, what kind?" I just happened to get some nice headphones because I needed something for my new PC. I got the Headroom Balanced Desktop/Senn HD650 combo. As someone who used to have a pretty sweet stereo system (until my drug habit caused it to go away, but that problem is, thank god, way in the past) I was expecting to be happy with the sound of a nice set of headphones. I've been in a state of bliss over the last week since getting my HD650s with the Headroom Balanced Amp. I'd forgotten how much fun it could be to listen to music. I'm so happy that I just spent $5,000 on a CD player, which has convinced my friends that I've gone over the edge. And then it happened... I noticed a really persistent ringing in my ears. Like 12 hours long. I've tried to be really easy on the volume, but it seems like the headphones don't "come alive" until they hit a certain sweet spot, which may be a little more loud than my ears should be listening to. Sennheiser customer service was super nice the entire time on the phone- I spoke to two really helpful reps. Took them about 2 weeks to get them here. Gots these Mylars but never could get some seal on the stock tips so I stretched out some Black shure foams to fit over.. baa boom baa boom is the bass there! fucking earphone does not sound bad at all actually. its really good, like really good. Baa Boom!

I just received a set of HD650s. "Wow" is all I can say. That being said, I don't think I've read anything positive about the cables on these things, so the idea that the sound could get even better has me salivating. What do you guys consider the best balanced replacement cable for these?

My K701 came in Always curious about these, only encountered them very briefly in a meet. Unfortunately I haven't been able to listen to most of my reference discs since the audio PC I stream from is being completely rebuilt and I'm waiting for a power supply. I got these this afternoon, then went out for a bit, so I only have around 3-4 hours of head time on them. I'm primarily a Senn guy, though I enjoy my SR225 from time to time, kind of like a fun diversion. I'm listening to Depeche Mode's "I Want You Now" right now, the fun, upfront sound is just cool, puts a smile on my face . I've especially enjoyed them since I got my PPX3 Slam, they benefit a lot from warmer amplification. What I want is to hear the Grado sound with more clarity and bass extension. Alright this comparison arose out of complete boredom My Melos SHA-1 has two headphone outs and I keep the KSC75 (screen modded) plugged in at all times to act as a dummy load for the amp when it's turned on, and then plug the HP-2 (flats) in after the tubes have warmed up. Today I forgot to unplug the KSC75 and noticed they were still plugged in after I was about half way through one of the discs. How come every headphone review has at least one "bass goes really deep" yada yada type comment. Most recordings don't even have deep bass on them and even many of the nice cans we enjoy gently roll off down there. Even worse is how every interconnect comparison within a review ends up with the new interconnect being a bit more extended in the highs and the lows. Can I get a review of my review of bullshit reviews now? Biggie.

Shit. I'd been listening to my RS-1s for a couple of hours. These are the darker wood used ones I bought from Larry at Headphile a couple of months back. I stopped the music and turned off the amp to roll out the tung sol's and RCA grey glass 6sn7, and roll in the sylvania gold pin 5687s and a Ken Rad vt-231 6sn7. All the tubes are firmly in place, and I crank up the amp. A few seconds later, I hear an alarming POP noise come from the general vicinity of my headphones and amp. Just a singular, loud, POP. Anyone have any thoughts on these? To me they seem to have spiked in popularity as of late to a the point where I really wantto her them, but I'm kind of unsure.
