Fuck, I tripped over my headphone cable of my ATH-A100Ti, and bent/broke the plug. I also broke my soundcard in my computer, but care a lot less about that, since I usually use an external one -- I don't think I'll get that fixed. So I'm thinking: rewire it! So what's the best 1/4" plug out there right now? Does Cardas make one? Or should I just get any old one? Should I also recable my headphones while I'm at it? Or should I sent it back to audiocubes or eifl for fixing? Can that even be done? Actually, just tested it out on a different connection, it appears it still works, must be the soundcard that got disconnected on one channel.

My Criteria for at work headphones: - under $200 - don't want my boss to think i dont need a raise - not showy - huge cans make it look like I'm not working - extra amp not feasible - might "walk off" - have to work with a dell 610 laptop - like to have some bass - open cans will bother my neighbors thank you experts!

What do you think? Should I jump on the HE90 without ever auditioning it (a chance which I'll never get anyways)? I'm a huge fan of the HD 650, favourite headphones probably, warts and all, and also liked the O2 very much when I heard them decently amped. Somebody offered the HE90 to me at a fair price with the Stax adapter. The seller also offered me a KGSS DX tuned for the HE90 as an optional buy, any thoughts on that? I've only listened to one album so far: Porcupine Tree - Deadwing (prog with loud/soft songs) I really know and love this album, and right now I'm hearing a clarity I have not heard in any other Grado. Only the K1000. But I'm also hearing a certain weight to the electric guitar that I have never heard on this album. And Steven Wilson sounds clear as day. I was wondering if anyone knows anything about a new headphone .... or modded headphone called the Alessandro MS2 Magnum. A head-fi buddy mentioned this to me. The phone will cost like $200-300 more than the standard headphone and supposedly be very PS-1 like. Anyone?

What are people's opinions on the best closed headphones, current or past production? I'm assuming that the list is down to the R10, L3k, perhaps CD3k and the Ultrasone Editions. Did I miss anything? Current generation woodies like the DX1000 (owned, didn't like, sold) and AT's (too much upper midrange)? I heard the K340 with sealed back and didn't like it - much better open IMO. Hi all, has anyone heard the Antique Sound - MG Head DT/OTL MK III with the AKG K701's? The reason I ask is I have a VAL E10 amp right now which I'm very disappointed in. It barely has anymore gain or volume than my iPod! Funny thing is it's rated for an output at 300mW into 100 Ohms. That seems like it has quite a bit more output than the Antique Sound - MG Head DT/OTL MK III. What is the input sensitivity of that amp? The Val is 750mV. Perhaps the ASL amp has a higher input gain? Any info into this would be greatly appreciated. I really like the exterior build quality of the ASL amp. I just bought a pair of AKG 701 headphones, and was wondering about the power rating. Their rated at 200mW. My amp puts out 300mW. I have to turn up the volume between 3/4 to all the way to get a decent volume level. Am I risking damge to the phones? There really not terribly loud at all. The Amp is a V.A.L. E10 tube hybrid.

After nearly a year with the W5000, it was time for some new woodie love! I wasn't sure if I would like them soundwise, based on the many various comments, but I'm liking what I'm hearing so far. What a great midrange!

I managed to get a pair for pretty cheap, but I'm not really expecting much. At the very least I hope they can trump the KSC-75 for movies and laptop use.

So I got teased a bit in another thread when I mentioned I ordered some HD600 grills for my HD580, because I thought that would essentially make them HD600s. Is this not the case? Do the 580's and the 600's indeed have the same drivers? If so, what is it that makes the 600's different aside from the grills, are the enclosures different?

As much as I like my K1000 setup, I can't lie down with them, so I started looking for "normal" headphones. I really had no specific trait of what to look for, since sonically I was pretty satisfied with the K1000. I basically just bought whatever I felt like, and it's more exciting this way. I bought the W5000s first because I've been curious about the Audio-Technica high-end. Later I bought the HD650s, since I've never had them, and I feel like I should give them a chance because they are one of, if not the, most popular audiophile cans still in production. So I just got my Etymotic ER-4P's and they're sweet, but I want to use the foam tips and I can't figure out how to put them on. Do I just shove the tube into the clear tubing or do i take the clear tubing out? WTF!!

I want a headphone to use on my exercise bike. The bike is quite noisy, so I need noise isolation. I understand from some browsing that the In Ear Monitors are nice for noise isolation, value, and sound quality. I am looking at the etymotic ER-4P, and the Shure E4c, or something in that price range (about $300 list, $175 online price) I like to listen to a variety of music, including rock, bluegrass, jazz and classical. Thanks for any advice.

I really like the K1000 and Grados. The HD650 is cool too, just looking for a third headphone. Just wondering how the bass and soundstage is compared to the HD580 or HD650 (even K501)? Is there good extension on both ends? Going to use it with the built in amp on the Lavry. addendum: I really disliked the HD590. It was one of the worst expensive headphones I've heard. It was my benchmark for no midrange...the 595 does improve on it a lot right...? And after spending a lot of time with the 580/650, if I were to call any Senn dark it would be the 590.
