Headphones

I've had a couple weeks or so to get used to my RS-1, so far I'm really happy with it and it has for the most part replaced my heavily modified K340 as my main headphone. I guess I'll give a summary of the larger differences for now and then go on to cover other things. Headroom: The RS-1 can play a hell of a lot louder without sounding strained. If I push my K340 it'll start sounding a little plasticky and echoey, and if I want to play Slayer at earbleed volumes it goes to crap. The colourations get really bad, the soundstage mushes into a shitty blob, and it sounds very compressed and strained. The RS-1 just keeps getting louder until my ears hurt. The treble gets a…

The SR-80 was originally bundled with the SRD-4 (Electret Adaptor). Can the Electret phones only be connected to a SRD-4 or to any adaptor/amp? The reason I ask is because I have a SRD 6 / SR-5 combo and and would like to add a SR-80 to it.

The HE90 is one of the best, if not the best, headphone I've heard. I'm currently using a Stax plug adapter to connect it to a HeadAmp KGSS.

My current stock of headphones, in order of preference, is Darth Beyers V2/K501, K24P, PX100, KSC75, UR/40 The stock DBs were just the end-all for me for a while, but I'd been lying to myself; they were compared to HD280s and KSC75s. I figured I could use some "opposite" headphones so grabbed some used K501s, and was really impressed at everything they did besides bass. The stock DBs were definitely way too bass heavy and the highs just... not there. I tried the gel pads and they made them more tolerable (bass tamer, more highs/mids), but something's still weird about it. Starting up the K340 modding thread so anyone that has modded them could offer advice, impressions on how they sound, etc can do so. I'm looking to recable one of my pairs to a 4 pin male XLR, replace the elastics, replace the grill with some other fabric and replace the earpads with velour ones.

Anyone balance their Edition 9s and if so any comments on the change from SE? My balanced experience is pretty limited to the Senn line where there is a decent change.

So I'm pretty close to graduation and I haven't really bought myself anything nice since February. I was initially going to get a very nice watch, but the last few weeks I've really been considering the L3000. It doesn't help that I didn't like them at the last Boston meet, but I'd like to give them another shot. Basically I'd like a more bassy, fun alternative to my two main headphones. I see the K1000s deficiency with rock music now that I have the HP-2. hi I spent to years creating this baby but if I were to apply my old rule of "what to keep" in an audio rig then the whole headphone side would have to go. here is the rule: if a certain component gets less than 10 percent of playing time, then It is not worth keeping, no matter how good a deal it was or how much it is worth.
