  2. New iMac is here! <long version>The size seems fine. It wouldn't hurt to have a couple of extra inches but it seems more my size. The fan in the new machine is much quieter than the last one I had; I haven't noticed it at all. I can hear it if I put my head close to computer and have it really quiet in the house but it doesn't bother me in normal operating conditions. Tidal now works in HIFI on this machine in Chrome. I don't know if it is because the operating system was screwed up on the last machine or if they updated Tidal, but I am very happy. I am no longer getting the spinning ball of death when trying to switch sound output. I think that particular computer had some issues and I'm glad I took it back and got a new one. </long version> I has a happy now.

  3. Got an email back from schiit saying the dac was noisy with the grado gr10 which is not as sensitive as the Jh 16. recommended I cancel the order since it was not the tool for the job. Extremely impressed with their honesty. Will likely buy from them in the future.

  6. If anyone cares, I decided to splurge and go with the Dell Chromebook 11 (bought directly from Dell) because I could get it with the Haswell Celeron processor and 4GB of RAM. It also has the best build quality of the three. We've had good luck with Dell products in the past so hopefully this works out.

  7. Wildly throwing an opinion. Having gone down the path of single driver tower > multi driver bookshelf > multi driver tower > single driver tower I can say that towers are really THE way to go. As long as the footprint is reasonable they are so easy to decouple yet retain the larger "size" of sound I only really hear from a tower (probably because of cabinet interplay). And that is consistent whether it's got one driver or several. For HT, you definitely want large sound. As for a sub, well I didn't really appreciate a solid sub implementation until I heard Mike G's Cicada rig and it sounded fucking perfect. If you need one, cool. But I bet you don't. Oh and that price is awesome. I like the nuanced angles on the front baffle. The Prime's look kind of like PSB Images on steroids.

  8. If they are half as good as their subs, which I have no reason to believe they would be anything less, then go for it. I love my SVS PC Ultra sub. Also, 45 day inhome trial.

  9. They reverberate quite a bit if the density of material separating the cups approaches the density of air.

  12. The WRX came with Dunlop summer performance tires. I'm not 100% sure if they are the same ones that are on the STI, but I'd bet they are awfully close. The long and short of it is with the AWD and the summer performance tires you will be howling in a corner long before the tires do . I live in the SF Bay Area, so winter tires aren't necessary. The worst we get down here is rain and light flooding. I do go up to Lake Tahoe in the Winter from time to time, but not enough to buy a second set of tires. The summers will be fine. The Forester is the sensible choice. The turbo XT and the WRX have essentially the same engine from what I understand. You've got about 20 years on me (and a wife and kids!) so obviously our car priorities are a little different. The exhaust I have is just the STI performance one Subaru offers as an option on the WRX and STI. I wanted it to be under warranty. I think I'll get used to it after a week or two, but its a makes a whole lot more noise than the 4-cyl Legacy I had rented while I was waiting for the WRX to show up.

  13. My daughter (almost 12) is on the yearbook staff at her magnet school. Her grade went on a field trip to the Atlanta Aquarium, and she was one of four people allowed to take a camera. I set her up with my Canon SL1 with a 28-105 F/3.5-4.5 and a few tips on shooting. This was only her second time shooting a dSLR. She got a lot of pix of her classmates, but this pic I fell in love with. **BRENT**
