So there was a bar doing a promotion with Dogfish Head for Record Store Day; they're doing a pre-party, and another place pretty close to me is doing a big party all day tomorrow. The place tonight was doing a "bring your own vinyl" thing. Well, one dude brought stuff, and he brought like, 2-3 albums.
I brought maybe 30-40 that I thought may have a song or two, or be interesting to someone. I started pulling out stuff like Dangermouse - The Gray Album and Linkin Park & Jay-Z - Collision Course and the bartenders went a little nuts. I brought out the 20th anniversary of Fugees - The Score and they dug it hard. I pulled out Rocky Horror and I had two people come up and ask me if I'd sell it, then many a fist-bump over some Ghostbusters them song Dub remix. Turns out all the bartenders had seen Flaming Lips live, so they lost it over the autographed "With A Little Help From My Fwends" album.
I walked out of there having DJed for 4 hours (1 was just for staff and their friends while they cleaned the place) and having quite a few conversations and got a couple business cards. I ALMOST didn't go out, but pretty glad I did. That was a fun night; it's so rare that I get to share music with others. I've been invited back with control of their house music system.
How bad is it that I want to bring in some vintage speakers that I have access to for free and revamping the soundsystem to sound good while the bar is full?
