  1. But they're on sale right now; it's all I can afford. Seattle's bloody expensive, I mean, I have to pay for power for 31 days this month.

  2. Ordered AirPods Pro online at 1:48 pm today, paid $9 for same-day delivery, Postmates courier dropped them at my house at 2:51 pm. I am listening to them now and they are pretty damn good.

  3. Suspect Tesla is going to sell a few of those in our neck of the woods in coming months. I remember that after the big ice storm on the East Coast a couple of years back, every new build or renovation in the nicer Connecticut suburbs included an emergency generator. It just became a must-have for buyers. (Incidentally, Marin being Marin, the county sheriff had to send out an emergency bulletin the other day asking people to stop calling 911 to register generator noise complaints.) [emoji849]

  6. Sweet. I've got a Yamaha TX-81Z and an Alesis QSR so far. The only effects unit I have is a Zoom MS-70CDR. I want to get something for overdrive/distortion, that will work at line levels. I feel like my next big purchase will be a drum machine, possibly the Elektron Model:Samples. But I don't know, there is a point where owning more gear causes me to get less done.

  8. I'm absolutely loving my Synthstrom Deluge. More than just a groovebox, it also has midi I/O, 2 CV outs, and 4 gate outs. And it acts as a USB host, which I don't even understand but people are excited about it. Check it out and we can be nerds together. I'm modular-curious at this point, but mostly I'm interested in FM and other digital synth sounds. They're a lot cheaper, for one thing, but also I love industrial music. I'm trying to assemble a fleet of cheap old 90's-era rack synths, to run through effects. I have an Arturia Minibrute for bass/lead stuff.

  10. Our section of So Cal is due for 50-70 mph winds (!) starting midnight tonight so by tomorrow the local fires can be anywhere/everywhere and very bad. We plan to stay up most of the night just in case we need to egress.

  11. Latest from Fairfax PD claims that Marin is not supposed to be shut down for the next round unless the Kincaid fire threatens Marin power lines: 10/29/2019 The Fairfax Police Department just received the following update from the Marin County Office of Emergency Services as it relates to the PSPS and current power outages in Fairfax and the entire County. CURRENT: Power is available through the main transmission lines for Marin County but PG&E is experiencing challenges with substations. They are trying to determine and resolve those issues ASAP. FUTURE: Potential Power Shutoff Update: PG&E states that Marin is currently outside the scope of the next general PSPS that begins today (Tuesday) however the Kincade Fire could impact the county. If winds push fire towards transmission lines supplying Marin, PG&E would need to de-energize those lines and Marin would experience outage countywide. PG&E is monitoring fire and weather closely but can not give any detailed information on timing or probabilities.

  12. I heard this described as the new abnormal, which I think sums it up nicely. (real) Office, has power (and internet), for now. Home, not so much. Possible power outage tonight - until thursday? yay!

  13. Went in to SF for dinner last night for a warm meal and to charge devices and it was pretty damn surreal driving back across the Golden Gate Bridge into a nearly pitch black Marin County. It was like entering the void. Power is back on this morning but it is scheduled to go out again in a few hours and be out till potentially Wednesday evening. Plan is to run to the office, get my laptop, then go work at my boss's vacation home in Napa outside of the shut down area. I really hope we are saving lives here and not just shareholders, PG&E. This is such a pain in the ass.
