I'm probably way late to the game (as usual) but have been obsessed with a few tracks by Big Data lately. A favorite, Automatic.2 points

So I watched this the other day: And that made me what to listen to this in my queue: History Of A Feeling Madi Diaz 2021 https://album.link/us/i/1566314408 Example: I am happy that Tiny Desk help me move her to the top of my queue. It would have taken me a while to get to this otherwise.2 points

I think that they could have fit one more Qsound into that sentence. Yeah I liked Qsound - It reminded me of the Stereo Dimension Array that Polk developed back in the day. Getting the sound out beyond the speakers. With a lot of minor adjustments to my B&W 802s I could get Roger Waters Amused to Death to almost surround sound levels.2 points

Nice turntable. Thanks for the picture. I will not meet up with mine again until sometime in May. PS: I almost went with red. It looks better than the black.1 point

Thanks audiostar. Yes, the transistors on the GRLV's will be mounted on the heatsinks on the side of the case - I temporarily soldered them into the boards just so I could do some quick tests on the GRLV's to make sure there was not any unwanted smoke etc but will remove the transistors and then re-mount them onto some aluminum angle which will then be mounted to the case heatsinks and solder them back into the boards. I have a headphone protector board ready to go as well as a pair of the 1st gen digital attenuators and a ss / zf switcher board. I am going to be running 3 transformers in the PSU - 2 x 24v 100va for the GRLV's and 1 x 15v 50va a to run the headphone protector, DA's, DA controller and ss / zf switcher along with 2 linear power circuits for 12v and 5v. I know it is a bit of overkill but I have space for it so figured why not. I need to go back and read the main thread for the CFA's to wrap my head around adjustment as it has been a while since I started this project. I will hopefully have the case for it in the next couple of weeks and once it is all cased up will get around to adjustments etc.1 point

I listened to "Think Of Me" first, as it started I think "This has a very nice Shawn Colvin voice and taste...." Then came the chorus 😄 Still quite good1 point

Oooh, I see Medeski and Fiuczynski (I've been listening to a lot of Hiromi lately, and the latter is a frequent collaborator), very interested, thank you for mentioning it.1 point

Was listening to Queen's 1977 album News of the World and reflecting on its cover art. The cover art was done by Kelly Freas, based on his cover for the October 1953 issue of Astounding Science Fiction. There's an alternative cover for NotW, which was also inside the gatefold on some versions: Freas' artwork is kind of creepy, unsettling, quite vintage looking but also weirdly futuristic. I remember seeing it as a kid and not being sure what to make of it. The music is pretty spectacular as well.1 point

Not really “cooking,” but I’m fermenting for the first time in a while. Some sort of heritage cabbage Heather got from her local farmer’s market in North Carolina. I let it sit in my fridge, which was a mistake, as it lost moisture. I had a fix: I made a tea with bay leaves and added that, along with roasted fennel seed. I imagine it’ll be quite good.1 point

Listened on and off for hours today. Only moment of confusion was some guy growling for seemingly ever. Otherwise, it was fun listening!1 point

Well, this looks promising, Manitoba storm could be 'worst blizzard in decades,' Environment Canada says. High estimates are about 45 cm (18") of snow. And I don't think we're even getting the worst of it, going to be worse to the south. Last I saw, snowfall in Grand Forks ND could exceed 80 cm (32")!0 points

The two Chechen wars (the second one under Putin) accounted for 25,000 civilian deaths and 5,000 missing. Scorched earth, Grosny levelled, mass graves. Sound familiar, twenty years on?0 points

Oh hells bells. Those of you who have been around here ...since I created this thread in 2008 may remember I used to do a lot of mucking about in HDR with a small army of apps. The one that I used the most was Photomatix. At first I pirated it, but liked it so much I paid for it not long after. I don't remember the price anymore, but I think it was around $25 in early 2006. For that sum I got the app as well as a Photoshop plugin (which I found to be of limited use, but sometimes handy.) My license got me through many upgrades of Photomatix, to the point in time that I stopped using it. To be fair, this was several laptops ago. Tonight, while editing some photos I took in 2006 (more on that later) remembered Photomatix and decided I wanted to give it bash again. Well, there is a current version, which is nice. It's native to M1/Monterey, which is essential. Also my serial is ancient and no longer valid for the new version. Understandible. I have paid for an upgrade for Little Snitch at least 3 times in the last dozen+ years. LS's devs give me a discount because I have an older license and (this is the key part) I can still run the old version on my other, older Macs (I maintain a number of Minis, which I find to be insanely useful.) By the by, any HCers out there using Macs, I cannot recommend Little Snitch enough. It's my favorite firewall app. As I was saying... I get no discount for owning an old version of Photomatix and CRIKEY have their prices gone up. $99 for the base app and more on top for the PS plugin. Naturally my serial still works on old versions, but they won't run on Monterey (or any other recent version of MacOS.) That's ...more than I'm willing to pay to re-up a program I previous purchased just to futz with it for a bit. So... Yarr har fiddle dee dee! 🏴☠️0 points
