  1. About two weeks ago I finished up a job (I'm now on a new job). The homeowner Chris always had a nice plaid shirt on. We got to talking about plaid collections. Although mine was much bigger, he had all Pendleton wool plaid shirts. Very nice plaid shirts, for those not in the know. Today my boss met with Chris and his wife. Pretty much a final meeting. Chris asked him to give me a box. This was the box... Pendleton has many styles. My favorite being the "Board" edition. It's a casual style, not too western looking. And made to be worn untucked. A beautiful Board edition! These are in the $150 neighborhood. I love my job!

  2. And in local news ... The De Young Museum in SF is having an exhibition "Ansel Adams in Our Time" https://www.famsf.org/exhibitions/ansel-adams-in-our-time and there is a Zoom docent lecture, on Monday, thanks to the CM/Marin County Library "This online program will be presented by Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco docent Jim Kohn, and is generously sponsored by the Friends of the Corte Madera Library." https://marinlibrary.bibliocommons.com/events/63ed92c93edbd4ffdd6af3c3 I have signed up for the Zoom lecture, (Zoom compression artifacts notwithstanding) as it should be an interesting introduction to the exhibition. Joanne signed up for De Young membership last year, so may be able to get discounted tickets!* EDIT: *Free for us (Joanne +1), discount for "guests" on same visit.

  5. My Pixel phone tells me when, and by how much, I am out of level. Consequently, all pictures of my cats are very correct. From the numerous posts you have made, it seems that it is finally time to get off the pot, be honest with yourself, and admit what your true calling is.

  7. I can usually judge my day by how many batteries I need to pull from the box. Today is a busy day.

  9. In that "Gen Z" article they utterly failed to the goddamn horizon line even remotely straight. The single most important part of any photo involving a body of water is keeping it level. One of the things I don't like about using an LCD screen for landscape photography is the lack of markings. For years when I used the AF point indicators on my 30D/5D to see if I had the ocean remotely level. Even with those, I'd often spend considerable time futzing around in Photoshop to get things as flat as I wanted. I salute the large format photographers who succeed at the task while looking at the world upside down and backwards. Now that I say that bit out loud, maybe I was meant to be an ULF photographer.

  12. The trimmer should change the input bias current by only a small amount. The real-world devices are not as well-matched as the models in SPICE, which is why a trimmer becomes handy. Also, if you use the global NFB version of the schematic for sim, the feedback resistor will drag the input toward the output (hopefully zero) such that the change of the voltage across the input resistor is less. It would be more pronounced with the non-NFB version. Another way to look at it in sim is to monitor the input bias current directly through the 100 Ohm resistors at the base of the input transistors as the trimmer is adjusted.

  13. I think the 10k trimmer balances the P and N arms of the input stage, hence reduces the input bias current of the amp. Too much input bias current could cause a scratchy volume pot over time. The adjustment is outside of the servo feedback loop therefore needs to be adjusted separately. I would leave the volume pot to max or disconnect the pot, adjust the trimmer to minimize the voltage across the input resistor (100k) or across the volume pot, after the amp is fully warmed up.

  14. In my KGSSHV build, I used something similar to your grounding B scheme, and it's very quiet with no noise or hum whatsoever. I did not however use a series resistance and capacitance between the earth and the ground. They are directly connected. The XLR input connectors have a separate earth connection that I connected to the central earth connection.

  17. Had a company soccer match/B-B-Q. We played against the plumbers. Had company jerseys and all. Great fun. I cheered from the sidelines with Suzy helping to motivate. Suzy had a well deserved nap on the way home.

  18. I once fell off of a chair and my hand came down on a stagnant chain saw that was setting on the floor. It made a 1/2" cut in my hand, not too deep. It did however leave a small but noticeable scar. When showing that scar, I refer to it as my "chainsaw accident". You can now show your scar and refer to it as your "shaving accident".
