  1. Head-case will be undergoing maintenance starting at ~8PM eastern on Saturday September 23, 2023. This work is expected to take a couple of hours and the site will be in maintenance mode or offline during various parts of the maintenance.

  3. Water Falls Sara K. 2004 https://album.link/i/6333184 Example: I continue to grow in my appreciation of Sara. As always a very well recorded set of tracks. Not as clean as the Chesky releases, but few things are.
  4. I just listened to the album and her vocals are so much better than live. She sounds more relaxed and confident and clear on the album. Much of the time last night, she had an exaggerated style where she clipped/faded both beginnings and endings of words so much that it was distracting. I heard one woman from the audience talking about it on the way out of the hall, and she said it was like Cavassa didn't pronounce any consonants. Hard to explain but it was pretty accurate. I don't always love jazz vocals but this album has some great takes on an interesting selection of great pieces.
  5. Actually made something with wood today, though it is about the simplest project ever.

Just for documentation's sake, "Bridgeport" is alive and well. Doug obviously knows the details better than I, but I expect to have her resettled here in the holy land before too long. Thanks again, Doug!
  8. Kingfish is playing next Friday at 2:30pm at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass...
  9. I listened to Redman's album too. Really liked it. Was expecting it to be more experimental from Mikey's comments. It was pretty straight forward to me, and I did like the singer. Bummer that she sounded so off live. I also listened to this: I saw some YouTube videos of him but didn't think I'd like a whole album. I was wrong. The sound quality was surprisingly good, and this song blew me away, especially the solo. The 8+ minutes is well worth your time, but if you don't want to invest in it, the solo starts at 3:20.
  10. Ooh, right up my alley. Thanks!
  11. When I had a Windows PC I used to play with the F1 official game. By the days Schumacher used to win, before Alonso's titles. Suzuka was one of my favourite circuits, all those turns, so difficult to memorize and drive right. A lot of fun. Hopefully this is a nice race, on FP2 Naranjito didn't seem that superior, though not as behind as in Singapore.
  12. Cool angle of one of Sir Lewis' laps. Helps you realize just how absurdly fast these modern cars are. They take turns at speeds you couldn't even come close to in another other than an ultra-high downforce ground effect car. Fighter pilot level g-forces in the turns as well.
  13. Joanne made some apple cinnamon muffins, so I'm having one with a nice cup of tea for elevenses.

  21. Been staying home for the past couple days to do a coding challenge today. So today was rice day, apparently -- Right Rice, and Uncle Ben's, both Spanish rice varieties. (Not my usual super-spicy comfort food, but super-easy on the stomach, which is what I was looking for.) The downside is, I'm super hungry, but it's late enough that I don't want to eat big.
