What Is Photography? (No Need to Answer That.) Two exhibitions by Japanese artists raise deep questions about the medium, and โ refreshingly โ leave them hanging. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/11/21/arts/design/sugimoto-moriyama-london.html?unlocked_article_code=1.Bk0.x_6d.KSjSSxKzHl3A&smid=url-share3 points

There's a Richard Misrach/Meghann Riepenhoff show on now at one of the better Atlanta galleries. https://www.jacksonfineart.com/exhibitions/247-meghann-riepenhoff-richard-misrach-duet/ We have a piece by the latter (the big blue one that used to be in the family room in Marin) and she's going to come and see it in the new house at Christmas, when she's visiting her parents in Atlanta. Says she is always interested in how they change over time, given the direct exposure of the medium to the elements.2 points

Killing Joke. I just hit play on Spotify, so whatever comes up. Currently: Love Like Blood. Egad, what a huge sound. And he tuned a whole step down! My man!1 point

Aw, man, what a seminal sound. I still want an ES-295. That was always one of the things that turned me off about the common wisdom of hollowbody guitars -- he taught people that it wasn't just for jazz.1 point

Marty Krofft was married to a Playboy playmate? RIP to the baller. I watched Pufnstuf, Bugaloos and Sigmund but I was really into Land of the Lost the most. Those slow moving Sleestacks were very scary!1 point

I too am making a pie for Thanksgiving. And by making I mean I bought it at Costco and will drive it to Arizona.1 point

Jimmy has been in hospice for nine months and Rosalynn for only two days. They both took a lot of shit while in office and then continued to serve others for over forty more years. RIP Rosalynn.1 point

RIP to Marty and Larry (the latter I knew nothing about, so thanks for posting all the links jpelg). Sad one for me, and many fans of Killing Joke: RIP to Geordie Walker, long-time guitarist for the band, and core member for all their incarnations. https://www.stereogum.com/2243715/killing-joke-guitarist-geordie-walker-dead-at-64/news/ He/they made some awesome and powerful music into their 60's....IMO never lost anything from their early days....0 points

Also, meta post here. Imgur finally made good on their threat to delete old images, and not in the way they said they would. In the spring of this year they said they were deleting all old images not associated with an imgur account. I've had an account since the site launched in 2010. I had uploaded something like 44,000 photos in that time. At least 20K are magically gone. This is what the first post in this thread now looks like: ๐ชฆ0 points
