  1. Oh Steve, I hope you had a chance to help this young man. I think a conversation with a man he looks up to would do him a world of good. It is hard for some young men to socially mature, even when they have a good example to reference. It sounds like he may have to work harder than many to find that example. He made an off-color joke to the wrong crowd at the wrong time. Who among us hasn’t, right? I would bet he feels bad but has nowhere to put those feelings. Shame is one of the real ugly, scary ones we would all rather hide. Obviously this isn’t your fault or your doing, but I feel like this is an opportunity to selflessly put a little compassion in the world. Sorry it had to be you, buddy, but that’s the price you pay for caring about people.

  7. Figured I'd post this picture here as well as in the Stax thread, MA-009 vs SR-009D I've just been on holiday so no work on this project but I'll probably make some new diaphragms for the MA-009 soon. The ones in there are just too unstable, any major airpressure and they just stick to the stators.

  12. I started a GoFundMe for myself. I almost called it, "Help Me Not Join ICE", but there is absolutely no risk of me joining ICE. I'm just like them, except I don't hate immigrants, non-Caucasians, or women. I do hate & rage -- at pedophiles, predators, human traffickers, drug lords, organized crime, scammers and grifters. https://www.gofundme.com/f/nxzsm-help-peter-get-back-on-his-feet/cl/o?utm_campaign=man_sharesheet_dash&utm_content=amp17_tc&utm_medium=customer&utm_source=copy_link&lang=en_UShttps://www.gofundme.com/f/nxzsm-help-peter-get-back-on-his-feet/cl/o?utm_campaign=man_sharesheet_dash&utm_content=amp17_tc&utm_medium=customer&utm_source=copy_link&lang=en_UShttps://www.gofundme.com/f/nxzsm-help-peter-get-back-on-his-feet/cl/o?utm_campaign=man_sharesheet_dash&utm_content=amp17_tc&utm_medium=customer&utm_source=copy_link&lang=en_US&attribution_id=sl%3A5974c743-384d-4b16-bc0e-0f1a102d6f3d&ts=1770472529 Here is the Facebook post, if anyone cares to like/boost visibility/share there: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1E1YCwS6ar/ I realize the last time y'all gave me money may have left a bad taste in many of y'all's mouths, but any spreading of the word would be appreciated. Even a small amount ($13?) would help lend credibility, when strangers later see this.

  13. Better yet... Single Power ES-1 board!! Seriously though, as fucked as the ES-1 and ES-2 were... there was less wrong with the actual circuit than this pile of fail. Let's put build quality aside, the permanent 100V offset, non floating heaters chewing up tubes and some other "minor" issues... they did produce enough volume for a normal listening session.

  14. They were a favorite group of mine. The idea of three lead singers was interesting. It made their sound quite varied. They were also one of the first big groups to come to Anchorage. They did a tour of drive-in movie theaters. I couldn't afford a ticket at 11 years of age, but we sat outside of the drive-in and heard the concert as well as saw it.

  17. After listening for a while (and getting the output under control: it's HOT out of the box), I think the DAC3 is a subtle audio upgrade, but a noticeable one. The voicing is just so similar to the DAC1 that I didn't notice it at first. Also, trying out DSD audio for the first time.

  20. Bobby (the cat pictured in the beginning of this thread) was put down a year and a half ago. Skye (companion I got for Bobby in 2014) got sick the next month. I fed her through a feeding tube and saved her life. But not fully. She passed away a week ago. In my hands. I was heartbroken. She made this trilling sound -- like a pigeon cooing -- all the time, to get my attention. It was always very insistent. I heard it today. I started to respond (I make a version of that noise in response, to let her know, "I hear you."), but then I realized I will never hear that sound again from her. My heart broke all over again. RIP Skye (2014-2026)

  22. Sports legend, Detroit Tigers pitcher from the 60s and 70s, Mickey Lolich. He was 85. Most well known for pitching 3 complete game wins in the 1968 World Series, the last two, in Games 5 and 7, were wins over the great Bob Gibson, who had an incredible 1.12 ERA in 1968. Lolich was a somewhat improbable hero, as teammate Denny McLain had won 31 games in the regular season that year, which was the last time that will ever happen. All a bit ahead of my time, as I was a 6 year-old. But I've heard it recounted many times by Tigers fans, not the least of whom is our friend Todd 'the Vinyl Junkie' Green out in Three Forks, MT.
