Somewhat related: http://www.rotarywoofer.com/KING_IS59_Summary.pdf Using a U-haul truck as the enclosure for a rotary woofer (made by Eminent Technologies), they were able to detect infrasonics at a distance of 3.8km.
  2. That's running cool by pass lab standards
  3. If you have access to an IR thermometer, do you think you can measure the temperature of the transformer bell? I'm planning on painting it but want to make sure that it's not going to get too hot for the paint I'm going to use. I don't have any advice for you as I haven't built mine yet >.> Most of the parts came in today though, so I should be able to get started once I find an anodizer/powdercoater to do the panel!

It looks like a measurement mic mounted with some sort of bracket on top of that tripod.
  5. I bought a bunch of tubes for the eventual tube swapping that will happen when I finish my Bottlehead Crack!
  6. At first I thought those copper pipes were heatpipes, so I was trying to figure out where the heatsink was Beautiful work Frank!

What amp(s) have a 400 or 800ohm output impedance? I'm going to guess that it's some sort of tube amp?
  9. The ones I saw for sale were under the cables, speakers, tweaks, etc. forum. Is it wrong that I haven't even built my amp yet and I'm already buying tubes to swap with?
  10. There are so many tubes to choose from!
  11. I just saw the price....wow, I didn't realize that's how much it cost. Saw this old thread browsing the old threads: http://www.head-case.org/forums/headphone-amplification/4566-rudistor-xj-03-a.html Looking at the internals and the price, there seems to be a bit of a disparity there.
  12. So THAT's the key to avoiding drama, a KGSS and O2's? I'll have to put that on the to-do list The $50 DAC in the Singlepower Square Wave was entertaining as well.
  13. Wow, limited edit window indeed. Ran a search and a lot of his posts ended up consisting of "..." That RP1000 thread is great.
  14. I think they tell you to leave some gap so there's more surface area for it to be cooled by air. Shouldn't break anything but might reduce the lifespan, perhaps?
  15. I'm quite surprised that a company selling such high end gear isn't responding to emails or phone calls about a potential sale. Oh well, their loss?

I read that before but not in detail, thanks for the refresher!

I was rather confused when I read the "balanced amp" discussion portion. I know the basics of balanced operation, but much of what he said just made me confused.
  19. It would seem that works for a number of people.
  20. Kit arrived today, very well packed kit though it looks like the top panel has a bit of snipe on one edge possibly from the sanding process. The panel itself looked like it was manhandled as well, plenty of dark fingerprint smudges and a couple of decent scratches. Shouldn't be too big a deal though, as I plan on powdercoating the panel. Other than that everything else in the kit looks pristine. Time to break out the soldering iron
  21. Filled out a rather lengthly VA form; I foresee a lot of waiting ahead. Dusty: How do you like AutoIt? I've skimmed over it once before, but software restrictions won't allow me to use it so I didn't bother researching too much.
  22. I found this shipping label on my Sony LED TV entertaining: Colin: Does this count as having bought a plasma?
  23. Decided to go for the Samsung 2TB instead of the Hitachi?
  24. I'm still using a 300D, if I were to upgrade I'd probably go for a 7D or a used 1D MkIII.
  25. Nebby replied to Dusty Chalk's topic in Off Topic
Hitachi 2TB for $109 before MIR with coupon code EMCYWNT35. It also has a $20 rebate, though it's in the form of a visa prepaid card. If you factor that in it's $89 after rebate. The rebate expires 9/2/10. Newegg.com - HITACHI Deskstar H3IK20003272SP; 2TB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb; Internal Hard Drive
