  1. x2 Big three of Yosemite, Yellowstone and Glacier are probably musts. As is the Grand Canyon. The cinema side of me wants to visit Monument Valley someday. To a large extant the easy answer is probably... Utah. As you mentioned Ohio, don't miss the Perry's Victory and International Peace Memorial. Cool little place.
  2. Have fun Grahame! Went through the music collection this weekend and built a 60+ album playlist for the day/childcare center. Burt Bacharach & Hal David to John Zorn (with Anouar Brahem, Nat King Cole, Bon Iver, Daara J, The Civil Wars, Madeleine Peyroux, Astor Piazzolla, Harry Nilsson, Tom Waits & Crystal Gayle, Ike Quebec, Os Mutantes... you get the idea... in between). Took much longer than expected and was kinda fun to pick introductions for developing minds.
  3. The Arete with stock PS at $895 is pretty amazing bang for buck. Must resist for office use.
  4. I like both with HD800, but kept the Peak/Volc. Why not look at the Arete?
  5. Biden is getting a little cocky... Vice President Joe Biden talks to customers during a stop at Cruisers Diner, Sept. 9, in Seaman, Ohio. http://photoblog.nbcnews.com/_news/2012/09/09/13763392-biden-cozies-up-to-voters-in-ohio
  6. Depends on how popular/not you want to go, but the recent Boddie Recording Box reissue is filled with fun. Some digital tracks were included in B&W club a while back. http://www.numerogroup.com/catalog_detail.php?uid=01313
  7. Congrats Shelly!

  10. Famous album covers recreated with my socks http://thesockcovers.tumblr.com/
  11. Anyone want to nominate any shows from the below? List of television series canceled after one episode Technically these all qualify, right? List of television series canceled before airing an episode .
  12. For those without Siri (and maybe with)...
  13. We should probably add Korg's AudioGate to the list. Seems to play most formats, but mostly associated with DSD. Free as long as you let it Tweet when exporting/burning. Yea, kinda irritating.
  14. With guardrails on its structure, suppose the original Law & Order never really had a dud.
  15. Can a show be 'dud-proof' if the duds (bad jokes/skits/episodes) are (x percent) anticipated, played with & repeated by creative team and thus enjoyed with the initial successes? If so... Police Squad (IN COLOR!) SCTV
  16. Breaking Bad (what the fly episode off budget?) Girls (10 episodes) M*A*S*H (likely some duds, but can't think of one EDIT: at least until Radar left) Rat Patrol (likely some duds, but can't think of one) The Andy Griffith Show (likely some duds, but can't think of one) The Dick Van Dyke Show (likely some duds, but can't think of one) Freaks & Geeks (18 episodes) The [british] Office (14 episodes) No Soap, Radio (4 episodes) Arrested Development (at least so far) Seasons of The Simpsons First season of Twin Peaks Four seasons of The Wire The Prisoner? H.R. Pufnstuf? Lidsville? Long list of series that may not have stood the test of time so well, but possibly had 'no duds' from the past perspective including Mary Tyler Moore, Soap and first Bob Newhart. How many duds did Roseanne or Taxi have? Is Seinfeld gaining or losing duds over time?
  17. An Outsize ‘Ring’ on a Living-Room Scale “Das Rheingold” projected onto large screens in Times Square (in a deluge) and in an HD screening at a movie theater in Ellsworth, Me.; “Die Walküre” in HD at a theater in Manhattan. Soon I will be able to view it in the intimacy of my living room, and you will too, on eight DVDS or five Blu-ray discs, to be released by Deutsche Grammophon on Sept. 11.
  18. Jenna Mammina & Matt Rollings Special Event 25 July 2009 Picked up the discounted DSF tracks mainly for the crazy good version of Warren Zevon's Mutineer. http://bluecoastrecords.downloadsnow.net/discount

  22. Moar photos!
  23. Yeah, great bumping into you also. Unfortunately, I had a pretty abbreviated visit. Overall good time, though both in exhibitors and vistors it seemed a significant step down from last year. Interestingly less vinyl also and for those with tables only one was using it when I visited (Zu, their only source). The MBL Radialstrahlers** sounded so dead on with one track, so dead on the next. Still curious to hear more. Zu Essences were intriguing with Steve Earle sons newest LP, but I had very limited listening and The Police just sounded like The Police (hint: not a fan). Was pretty surprised at the bang for buck from the $650 pair (I think show price) Martin Logan LX16s bookshelves** and new Motion 20s ($750 each) floorstanders. Ribbon tweeters. High point was the Win Audio room (photo below). Those monoblocks were stunning in every respect. Wish I remembered the pyramid speakers they were paired with. Largest disappointment was the KEF Blades, but again I only heard two songs and may not have been in the sweet spot. Also joined BAAS and picked up some Blue Coast music. Poor mans adventures at this kinda show. ** Both played those silly drum demos. EDIT: I should mention the Sony SS-AR1s, like last year, sounded pretty incredible if you like 'big sounds.' EDIT2: Not that I could tell much by the show setup, but the Music First Audio Passive Magnetic Preamp was interesting.
