There are many recent wonderful articles on, or related to experiencing, Blue, but give the below a read. It’s a stand out. https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2012/12/17/some-notes-on-attunement The first time I heard her I didn’t hear her at all. My parents did not prepare me. (The natural thing in these situations is to blame the parents.) She was nowhere to be found on their four-foot-tall wood-veneer hi-fi. Given the variety of voices you got to hear on that contraption, her absence was a little strange. Burning Spear and the Beatles; Marley, naturally, and Chaka Khan; Bix Beiderbecke, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, and James Taylor; Luther Vandross, Anita Baker, Alexander O’Neal. And Dylan, always Dylan. Yet nothing of the Canadian with the open-tuned guitar. I don’t see how she could have been unknown to them—it was her peculiar curse to never really be unknown. Though maybe they had heard her and simply misunderstood...

50 Reasons to Love Joni Mitchell’s ‘Blue’ Mitchell’s “Blue” exists in that rarefied space beyond the influential or even the canonical. It is archetypal: The heroine’s journey that Joseph Campbell forgot to map out. It is the story of a restless young woman questioning everything — love, sex, happiness, independence, drugs, America, idealism, motherhood, rock ’n’ roll — accompanied by the rootless and idiosyncratically tuned sounds she so aptly called her “chords of inquiry.” https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2021/06/20/arts/music/joni-mitchell-blue.html?referringSource=articleShare- Dave
If there have been mentions of Dave (FXX/Hulu) here I couldn't find it on search, so let's start a thread. If you're like me and late to the party, season 2 recently started and crazy funny/smart. If you're mixed at the pilot jump to episode 3 ("Hypospadias") for a kinda amazing episode of sexual fears/intimacy.- Post what you're watching

When I was in fifth grade, my class took a field trip to the George Eastman Museum, in Rochester, New York, as the fifth graders at my rural elementary school, 30 minutes south of the city, did every year. Housed in a Colonial Revival mansion built for the founder of the Eastman Kodak Company in 1905, the museum is home to one of the most significant photography and film collections in the world. But our job there was to stare at old cameras the size of our bodies, marvel at the luxury of having a pipe organ in your house, and write down what a daguerreotype is to prove that we’d been paying attention. At the end of the tour—in a second-story sitting room full of personal artifacts—we were presented, matter-of-factly, with a copy of Eastman’s suicide letter, dated March 14, 1932: “My work is done. Why wait?” Eastman shot himself in the heart with a Luger pistol at the age of 77. https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2021/07/kodak-rochester-new-york/619009/- Kevin Can Fuck Himself

Same here. Had a couple ATRAC players, both shown in the video. Loved the size, sound, and physicality of it. Strangely rejected someone giving me their MD player about a decade ago. That was a mistake. Still miss my MZ-R70. Moved to the 6GB Creative NOMAD Jukebox. Then seemingly downgraded to a shiny 5GB Apple iPod. I've never wanted anything as quickly as I did that 1G iPod. Even switched my operating system to support it. Nothing seemed as... is beautiful the right word?...until the 1G iPhone. But the Sony MDs were no doubt beautiful too. I won't comment on the Nomad. Anyway, Sony and portable audio always reminds of the article The Civil War Inside Sony https://www.wired.com/2003/02/sony-4/- Post what you're watching
