Ya know, AKG comes out with a brand new can that's ToTL...that's big news...how can I not. OTOH, I hate writing bad reviews. OTOH, maybe if I did they'd get their shit together and start trickling down the work that Sean Olive is doing faster. OTOH, fuck...I got better things to review. OTOH, WTF were they thinking? Fuck...I sorta don't know what to do... What do you guys think?

I don't find the 701 tizzy, just bright. Take a look at the 701 measurements here. Leading edge spike of the 300Hz square wave is distinct (though too high) and has relatively little subsequent ringing...there is a bit. But then take a look at the K812 measurements here. Leading edge of the 300Hz square wave is all over the place as is the impulse response.

They're pretty inefficient as I recall. Overall balance is better than the 701, but it's tizzier too.

They're not a zingy as the T1, but they ring a bit. Kinda sounds like there's always a triangle (the instrument) in the treble info. Measurements show a pretty severe double peak on initial 300Hz leading edge. Imaging and resolution aren't as good as the HD800, but I think I like the overall tonal character better. Very nice comfort and build quality. The included headphone stand is a nice touch, but the cable seems a bit cheezy for a $1500 headphone.

I'd say that's a fair statement; not brighter by a lot, though, and having tighter, more impactive bass. So it's not as simple as just saying their brighter.

Nah, the 880-600 is pretty good, as is the DT250-250, DT23,1 and DT1350... ...Other than that though, pretty lackluster.

I heard the Geek Out at CnJam and was pretty stunned. It sounded great. Bottom line: I really don't think you have to spend too much money getting very good sound these days.
