I picked up the Utopia recently, echo John's comments regarding sound. This weekend I was at a local dealer's, they had the Elear and Utopia out for listen. Indeed, not exactly the same sound signatures. Elear is still quite good at $1k, but Utopia is definitely more refined, better highs, more balanced overall, and more transparent. The bass on the Elear seemed fuller, but the Utopia is MAYBE as deep but definitely a bit more controlled IMO. EDIT: BTW, driven by an Arcam CD player, so source wasn't up to snuff. Told them they should put in a new source or set up a good DAC. So my observations could even be understated.....

The new Elac UniFi series should be really good for relatively cheap $. I had the Debut B6 from the first series designed by Andrew Jones. A little soft up top, but good deep bass and otherwise lovely sound, all for $280/pr. The new $500/pr UniFi UB5 bookshlves should be more extended up top, with a 5" mid-bass driver and concentric mid-tweeter combo. The UF5 is a floorstander for $1k/pr. The Pioneer models he designed I thought were very good, but the Elac Debut B5's and B6's were leaps and bounds ahead IMO. They also make a sub and center if you want to try to go 5.1+

You take care of stray animals, to a degree few of us here would. That says a lot about your character and humanity. I and I'm sure others recognize and commend that. Don't worry about getting our hopes up for the future of our country and world Off politics for a bit: my son got his first acceptance to college 2 days ago, along with $22k/yr scholarship award offer! BUT....the letter said it was Early Decision (binding). We confirmed we had sent Early Action (non-binding), so Andrew talked with admissions. New letter to come, still accepted right away, still the $22k/yr, and non-binding. It's too bad this is 3rd or 4th choice for Andrew. It happens to be closest to us and the only school in state he liked. But I think it bodes well for other schools......

I was waffling after all since I own the HD-600, ended up trying at around 10am anyway. Same result. Someone will eventually sell theirs, as Doug just said....

Yeah, don't like Gibson, don't want to support him/his projects. Cynic in me thinks this is his way of trying to get back in good graces of the public who cares.... But if it's a good movie, I'll see it....
