Ok, a bit of an update here. It appears that the Dodson is edging out the ECD-1. I'd like to confirm that with the Beta, but so far the nod goes to the Dodson for its better soundstage and more coherent presentation. Mrs. Monkey preferred it to because she found it less "muted" when compared to the ECD-1.

I remember getting chastised for my first memo at the firm at which I worked after clerking: "We indent the first line of a paragraph 1", not .5." Uh, ok.

Like a lot (all?) of us, I work in a profession where second-rate work product is a deal-breaker. If I turn in something less than excellent, I get shit for it. I'm constantly amazed by the lack of personal pride people take in their work, their hobbies, whatever. I am constantly amazed and impressed by the hardcore DIYers here who offer their services for either free or far less than market simply because it's a passion. You guys keep DIY alive. Because credibility and reputation take centuries to build and seconds to fall.

The only way for her to save whatever remaining dignity and credibility she has left is to state that this was not an acceptable effort, that she will refund biggie all $$ and will pick up return shipping, and finally that she will be taking a break from MOT until such time as she can offer a product that actually belongs in the stream of commerce.

Seeing as how the mammalia are chiming in, I thought I'd say kudos to you sloth on your insightful impressions. I am particularly interested in your statement about the nasal quality of voices. I don't know if that's how I would have described it, but the statement resonates with me, and I will listen more closely tonight. I was perceiving it as maybe some "grain," but that doesn't seem to capture it either.

I subscribe. I like it. And I like getting annoyed at it. I will not be purchasing this DAC, all evidence to the contrary. Toobs shouldn't go in DACz.

As many of you know, I have (and love) the Manley SkipJack. It's really a neat little device with many cool uses. I've been using it primarily to compare DACs, as it allows for very quick and quiet switching. One thing that occurred to me was that the SkipJack could really use a headphone jack so that one could do the same thing with headphone amps. Is that something that already exists? Put another way, is there a passive device into which you can plug a pair of phones and then switch back of forth quickly between two amps?
