  2. cool. pricey, but good to know. adjustable loading too. but it sounds sweet.
  3. do any of the modwright preamps come with a built in phono?
  4. I'm not sure if the whole SET thing is right for me. It'd be sweet for jazz, but I also love to rock out with my speakers. Maybe I'll do tube preamp -> solid state power thing.
  5. send paypal invoic pls. ty
  6. I don't know how I missed y'all talking about me back in September, I must not have been keeping up with this thread. I would be happy to do a loaner on the Seduction, its just sitting cold right now while the Bugle gets all the love. I'm not planning on selling it because it is a great phono and I'd like to use it trying out MM carts in the future, but for the time being we could send it on a cross-country vacation. For the record I also TENTATIVELY plan to attend Canjam 09.
  7. that b-stock max desktop and dps y'all have is CHEAP! very tempting.
  8. I really enjoyed listening to the setup last night. I agree that the DA-500 doesn't do anything wrong to these ears, which adds up to a pleasurable listening experience across a range of genres. The midrange may not be the liquid cool goodness of the 840C, but I do not think it is sucked out. In fact, I couldn't help but be slightly reminded of the DL-103. Maybe this is just the subconscious part of my brain struggling to find a house sound between two items from the same company created half a century apart, but I swear I didn't consciously arrive at this comparison. I was listening to the vocals in the midrange, and started thinking "this sound reminds me of some other source I've heard," then the DL-103 came to mind. Neat. As for the Wheatfield, I hadn't really spent quality time with it since I eliminated my headphone rig a few months ago (it didn't get a lot of attention in the speaker room, because when I was in there I listened to, you guessed it, speakers), and I am definitely happy to come back to tubes. Tubes are so awesome. I often forget that it was a tube amp (PPX3 Slam) that first really made me a believer in hi-fi.
  9. My new desktop headphone rig: Sounds great so far.
  10. I'm a bigger fan of Malazan as well.
  11. fucking AWESOME! really like a dream come true.

    Deals

holy crap that's a good deal. full 1080p to boot.
  13. FTFY just kidding, I love SACD, but I love the pops and clicks on my vinyl as well. to me, they are part of what delivers are more involving and visceral listening experience.
  14. Here here!! Thanks for your service!
  15. chrome plated? I won't buy unless the headband is woodgrain. I'll bet that it'll go for >$3500.
  16. I guess we're still waiting for a real dud to come out of this series.
  17. Turns out Domkirke was the first southern lord vinyl I purchased that didn't sound "marvelous". Actually sides 1, 2, and 4 sounded marvelous, but there was a horrible repetitive scratching noise on side 3. Also they forgot to include my t-shirt. I finally boxed it up and sent it back last week, we'll see how the replacement sounds. Musically its gnarly as hell.
  18. Kenny Burrell - Midnight Blue Horace Parlan Trio - Us Three Freddie Hubbard - Here To Stay Hoffman 45s. Once again I ordered completely different titles then I thought I would. I listened to the Burrell on iTunes and was instantly enthralled. I've never heard guitar jazz I really like, aside from free jazz freak out stuff, but this was cool. I was iffy on the Parlan, but I thought it would be nice to have a piano trio when I feel like relaxing without a horn blowing in my face. The Hubbard I also checked out on iTunes and found his playing just awesome. I listened to my RVG Kenny Drew earlier and while I enjoy it, I decided I'd rather not pay $60 for it. It's hard enough shelling out $50 apiece for the ones with plenty of remaining stock.
  19. I think that amp is frackin' gorgeous. We really must have a head to head comparison of the KGSS DX vs. BH, both with the OIIMK1 of course.
  20. Intended to say "haven't" heard the LD. They are pricey, but to me they are the biggest no-brainer purchase I've seen. They are an investment whose musical dividends will only increase as I upgrade my rig.
  21. Right on. I have an old LG 19" I could hook up to test that theory. Sucks though, my current monitor is a 24" Samsung and I love it.
  22. Hey gang- Having some really bad video issues. I've had this BFG 8800GT for a while now, and its been great. Last week I started having problems: yellow lines across the screen, random swirly blue dots showing up in any picture, and several minutes after these errors begin, my screen starts going black for several seconds, then flick back to normal for a second or two, then black, and so on back and forth, basically making it impossible to do anything with my computer. I haven't run any games in a while, this just happens when I'm browsing the internet. My quick resolution is to shut down the computer for a couple of minutes, then turn it back on. Everything works fine for a few hours, then it starts again. So I had the yellow lines/blue swirly dots issue with an HP laptop I had a few years back, and the tech support person said it was the graphics card. So I pulled out the 8800GT (all drivers up to date btw) and put in my old 7950 and installed it's latest drivers. Looked like everything was working perfectly, and it did for about 24 hours, but just a few minutes ago my screen started doing the black out thing, back and forth between showing the desktop and black. This spell was not preempted by any yellow lines or swirly dots, it just happened. Again I turned off the computer for a few minutes and turned it back on, so far everything is fine. Thoughts? Thanks.
