  1. Wow. Look at that brick wall. That being said, I find with a lot of recent releases the vinyl release gets a way better (read: more dynamic) mix. Maybe once someone gets their hands on a vinyl copy they can report back?
  2. I have it and played the first 30 minutes or so. Whoa. I haven't had a free weekend to sit down and finish it out yet. Agree with the above comment RE it coming to PC. It is hard to go back to consoles after spending so much time on PC. 30fps sucks relative to 60.
  3. I just finished Blood Meridian. Probably the most intense thing I have ever read. It literally took acts fortitude to get through it at times. Utterly amazing. I heard the NYTimes polled authors as to what is the most important American work of fiction in the last 30 years and Blood Meridian tied for second. That seems fitting. Judge Holden can never die.
  4. Wow nice. Between that and the news that Sony released yet another PS3 firmware update that bricks consoles I'm feeling quite a bit better about my preorder.
  5. Not gonna lie. I lol'ed at this post. What is the world coming indeed.
  6. My HV is now back up and running after the replacement trafo came in. To be on the safe side, I went from having a 100VA to a 150VA.
  7. Liberty-shimberty. What most people are going to care about is the $100. Until Microsoft makes a compelling case as to why they should cost $100 more they are going to suck wind.
  8. What the NES launch must have been like! http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/fcdcd7aa8d/the-1985-nintendo-system-reveal?playlist=featured_videos
  9. For what its worth, people said the same thing about movies a few years ago. Now, in the age of netflix steaming, apple tv and amazon instant it has been more than 2 years since the last time I actually bought a bluray or DVD. Heck, Best Buy is slowly going out of business because of stuff like this. I could really care less about whether I own the movie or just a license and I feel pretty much the same way about games. I think people will eventually come to view games largely the same way. My guess is that it's the $60 price point (as opposed to < $20 for movies) that throws people off? Once the tide begins to turn on purchases of physical games it'll be time to start shorting the stock of GameStop and whatever remains of Best Buy. In any case, as long as Microsoft's digital game service is similar in functionality to steam I will be a happy camper. Microsoft is ahead of the curve on this one. Only time will tell whether they are too far ahead for their own good.
  10. I'm going to hold on to mine for now in hopes that Microsoft can do some explaining in the next 5 months before they launch. As far as I see it, PS4 comes out of E3 with three big feathers in its cap. 1) It doesn't need to be online all the time. 2) It can play used games. (Maybe, Sony seemed to backtrack and say it was up to the publisher). 3) It costs $100 less. Of the three, only the $100 cheaper price point really matters to me. Having a PC I've gotten used to being online all the time and there is no such thing as a used game on Steam. The $100 is a pretty big deal though. Psychologically $500 for a console feels like a rip-off. In any case, the next five months will be an interesting race. The cutthroat competition can't be anything but good for the consumer. GT had an interesting interview with the President of Nintendo America yesterday that is worth watching for any potential Wii U buyers. In it, Nintendo states their case for why a consumer would want to purchase a Wii U over the other two consoles. Part 1 Part 2 Personally I found their case unconvincing, but others may differ. The way 3rd parties are avoiding the Wii U does not bode well for it in the future.
  11. Sadly Thunderbolt 2 is more or less just Thunderbolt 1 in different clothes. Source. I don't know what you mean by that, but one of these days iTunes needs native FLAC file support.
  12. How funny is it that after Denver Tebow goes to two cities that couldn't care less about Tim Tebow's religious zeal.
  13. ^ Oh thank god! Trying to get PCs to interface with our Mac file servers at work can be painful. Hopefully things get easier with 10.9. I guess they are trying to push everyone towards thunderbolt? Considering that its hard to even find a PC motherboard with thunderbolt on it I wonder if Apple isn't a little too out-in-front on this one.
  14. Yeah. I am also wow'ed by Sony. Microsoft left the door cracked and Sony walked right through it. I wasn't considering a PS4 before but watching that press conference after work last night made me sit up and take notice. MS now needs to either explain why their system will sell at a premium or drop their price to match.
  15. ^ No surprise there. The Pro systems have slightly slower cores, just more of them. Unless you know you are going to be running a bunch of multithreaded apps that can really take advantage of the Pro systems the iMac and mini are probably a better bet. Still. That new Pro is just way too darn sexy. Check out the new product page on the Apple website. http://www.apple.com/mac-pro/ Oh my goodness is that ever hawt.
  16. Yeah, but I just don't know if I'd trust one to be my primary work computer. For home use you can take the risk, but unless you have a really tech savvy friend I don't know what I'd do if I goofed it up. Its not like you can just call tech support.
  17. http://www.ign.com/wikis/xbox-one/Xbox_One_Price_and_Bundles $499 seems about $100 too much but I went ahead and plunked down on Amazon. I figure I can always cancel later if I change my mind. The TV integrated features seem pretty damn cool.
  18. The problem with the Mac Mini is that its really a mobile platform in a desktops clothes. The mobile CPU and GPU are fine, but there is much better performance out there in the desktop class hardware. The downside is that desktop class hardware requires a significantly larger power supply and quite a bit more active cooling which makes it hard to put it in any kind of innovative case. I'm totally with peanuts on this one. It would be great to have a monitor-less desktop that used TOTL desktop level hardware without going to the much more expensive "E" level intel platforms and professional class graphics cards. My guess is that there isn't much of a market for this kind of computer on the Mac side which is a shame because it'd be pretty much exactly what I'm looking for. The new Pro is going to be pretty kick-ass, but its not really the computer I'm looking for.
  19. With what looks like Ivy Bridge-E and dual AMD Fire Pro cards that thing is going to cost a friggin ton!
  20. Are you looking to use said headphones for Brainwave Entertainment?
  21. Is it wrong to kind of like the Lannisters?
  22. A great player while he was active, but also one of the greatest spokespeople the NFL ever had in retirement. RIP.
  23. Haswell launches Monday so I doubt you'll have to wait long.
