  1. I watched Pete Carroll make a horrible decision to pass when he has the best running game in football and three tries to run it in from the 3 yard line. Would not recommend.
  2. While I agree with you that Yahoo in general is increasingly irrelevant, many of the individual writers (in this case Pogue) are still very widely read.
  3. Yahoo hates it too. https://www.yahoo.com/tech/it-was-one-of-kickstarters-most-successful-109496883039.html This thing is going to be a complete flop.
  4. I'm embarrassed I left this off my list back when we were doing out top 5 albums of all time about a year ago.
  5. Innerfidelity.com has a wall of fame you may want to peruse. Or you could just go with the tried and true Floats by Dreā„¢.
  6. ^
  7. Looks like no new Senn flagship at CES:
  8. Had a chance to cash in a number of books on my Trip. Nothing better for burning though books than 12+ hour flights in the back of the plane in coach. American Gods My first Neil Gaiman book. I've dabbled in the Sandman and read some of his shorter stuff, but this was my first novel of his. It took me a while to get in to it, but once I did it was very enjoyable. It is a good story, and fun to read, though I found the side-cuts to the historical stuff distracting and I didn't think they added that much to the the main story threads or the points the book made. Gaiman is clearly a good writer. If you enjoy his type of stuff at all, check this one out. 4/5. I think I have to pick Sandman back up and start working through that. The Martain Hopefully Cute will agree with me, this is a hell of a fun read. I basically got through it in a single sitting. For you engineer-types this is sci-fi page-turner to read. The story is very fun, and (from my experience playing Kerbal Space Program on the PC) the science seemed to be pretty spot on. I'll be looking forward to the Ridley Scott movie, thats for sure. As a book, the writing isn't a whole lot better than what you'd find in a high-school english class, but that doesn't distract that much from how enjoyable the book otherwise is. Very recommended to the HC crowd, 4/5. I'll be picking up Andy Wier's next book for sure. The Name of the Rose I'm more than halfway done with this one, but I can already tell it is a masterpiece and lives up to the hype. Eco is a genius. It is not an easy read as it is really a philosophy, religion and semiotic treatise wrapped in a whodunit murder in a 14th century abbey, but it really is great. Thinking this one will be a 5/5 for me once I finish it.
  9. Really jet-lagged after a 24+ hour travel day to get home from Tel Aviv yesterday. What a great trip though. Israel is an awesome place to visit. Can't wait to see what exciting stuff gets shown off at CES. Sennheiser, don't let us down!
  10. Happy Birthday Jesus Ric!
  11. Thank god you were both wearing your seat-belts. I wouldn't want to imagine what might have happened if you were not. I still find it shocking how many people you have to prod in this day and age to wear a seat-belt. Thankfully my new car won't stop beeping at them until they finally decide to put it on .
  12. Bad ass! -- Half-day at work before heading home to pack for a 10-day trip to Israel and the Holy Land. Happy holidays, everyone!
  13. EDIT: Well, what do you know, turns out they sent it Monday but they didn't bother to tell me it had shipped. *sigh*. Email I sent this morning to Yama's. Getting the 009s repaired/replaced has been a nightmare.
  14. Damn, man! Hang in there!
  15. The WRX came with Dunlop summer performance tires. I'm not 100% sure if they are the same ones that are on the STI, but I'd bet they are awfully close. The long and short of it is with the AWD and the summer performance tires you will be howling in a corner long before the tires do . I live in the SF Bay Area, so winter tires aren't necessary. The worst we get down here is rain and light flooding. I do go up to Lake Tahoe in the Winter from time to time, but not enough to buy a second set of tires. The summers will be fine. The Forester is the sensible choice. The turbo XT and the WRX have essentially the same engine from what I understand. You've got about 20 years on me (and a wife and kids!) so obviously our car priorities are a little different. The exhaust I have is just the STI performance one Subaru offers as an option on the WRX and STI. I wanted it to be under warranty. I think I'll get used to it after a week or two, but its a makes a whole lot more noise than the 4-cyl Legacy I had rented while I was waiting for the WRX to show up.
  16. So Cartelligent really was hassle free. That is their selling point and they did a great job of taking care of the process. If you know what you want and don't want to deal with all the dealer crap then they are a great option. They handled the trade in of my broken-down 2005 VW Passat and got me exactly what I would have expected for it. Cartelligent only saved about a grand or so vs. MSRP on the new car, which was less of a discount than I expected. In their defense, there are basically no unsold WRXs on dealer lots in the US and most WRXs have to be custom ordered from Japan so the Subaru dealers they deal with probably aren't going to cut that great of deals on them. My guess is that if you are a tough negotiator you can probably beat their price with a little hard work. They got me 2.90% on the car loan though. Hard to complain about that rate.
  17. Oh yeah. That was the plan. I had the road to myself 80% of the time until I caught up to a PG&E truck that didn't want to let me by. I picked up the car in Sausalito and work in Larkspur so I had the road to Stinson and Sir Francis Drake penciled in as my "first drive" for months. This car is so much more capable than anything I've driven before. My hands are literally sore from the death grip I had on the wheel.
  18. Completed my first drive without killing myself. Wow. This is a capable car. Never driven a car with turbo before so that is going to take a little getting used to. Getting performance exhaust may not have been one of my brighter ideas. Its friggin' LOUD. Pics:
  19. As much as I like more high-minded stuff, without question this is my favorite show on TV. Every week I tune in and every week I am crying with laughter. These four guys are just so funny. They have the best chemistry together of any hosts of any live-action program I've ever seen, sports or otherwise. I DVR it every week regardless of whatever game proceeds it.
  20. Sorry to hear about your daughter, HPA. Regardless of whether we all approve or disapprove of the protests I would try and be as supportive of her as possible. She seems like a smart girl who just ended up in to a bad situation. We all make choices that don't turn out the way we had planned. I wouldn't give her anything but support and well wishes to get through this. Good luck to you and your family.
  21. Tomorrow, after just short of two and a half months of waiting for it to arrive from Japan, I get to pick up my brand-new car. Damn, I'm excited! It'll be the first new car I've ever had.
  22. Banging out some work to prepare for Monday with Bowie and Eno on in the background. What a great album!
  23. Senn. factory tour focusing on the HD800 assembly line.
