Great pick, sounds like something you'll be really happy with. What road do you plan on taking her to to break her in?

Ok... that last episode was fucking awesome.

Warriors over Cavs in 6 (though I'm hoping for 5).

As a WRX owner, I can attest that it is not a refined car. It is more on the "raw" side of the spectrum than it is "polished." That being said, the rawness of it, coupled with its 4-door practicality is what drew me to it.

Sounds to me like Jeff's best bet is to lease either a Golf R (or GTI) or S4. Both are going to be fast, have that nice german interior, and have great handling. Car-wise, they seem to hit all your buttons while being on budget. Golf R might be a bit small depending on what you are coming from, but without knowing your lifestyle situation (wife? kids? dogs?) its hard to say whether or not its compact size would be problematic.

Please send any and all unwanted rain over here to California. Thanks!

Carrera 4S is my dream car and, god willing, will be my next car after the WRX. It might be 6-7 years before I pick one up, but getting one eventually is the plan as long as life doesn't get in the way.

Yeah, if you are going to lease, then by all means go German! All my problems in German cars have happened after 60,000+ miles.

Also, I spent my Sunday test driving used cars with my youngest sister who just graduated from college and needs a car that will last her at least the next five years. She did all the driving, but it was kind of fun going along for test drives as a passenger. We test drove all of the following: Subaru Outback Subaru Imprezza Subaru XV Crosstrek Mazda 3 Ford Focus (with and without hatch) Honda Civic Toyota Corolla She ended up picking the Ford Focus hatchback off that list. I totally agree with the pick, as I found it the best driving of the bunch. The Focus' back seat is a little tight, but still totally useable. I wouldn't want to be back there for more than 2 or three hours though. The hatch model is pretty darn sexy. The Subaru XV Crosstrek would have been the other finalist, but it was at the very high end of her budget. We both really liked how spacious it was and how great the visibility out of it is. We both liked it more than the imprezza.

Just one man's opinion, but I won't ever touch a VW or Audi again. I've had two straight used VWs (2003 Golf and 2006 Passat) crap out on me short of 100,000 miles. I also had a BMW 328i 5+ years ago that turned in to a money pit as things continued to break. All three cars were nice to drive when they worked, but the reliability was hardly confidence inspiring. All three were bought used so you may want to take that with a grain of salt, but the high depreciation on a lot of the german cars tells me that I'm probably not alone in having reliability issues. Crap-shoot German reliability is part of what pushed me to Japanese cars. I wanted something both fun and dependable.

Goodbye, Atlanta Hawks. We hardly knew ye. Down 0-2 with Korver out and Damarre not at full strength? Yeah... Looks like LeBron will be ready and waiting for my Warriors should we get past Houston.

Happy Birthday, B-Man!

WCF games have been terrific. Curry and Harden are both as advertised and are straight ballin'. Crazy that the game last night came down to a single possession.

He isn't talking about the G-Wagen, he is talking about the E63 AMG, basically the Mercedes version of the M5: https://youtu.be/rY5oSik1eHs

Unless you go to the track a lot I can't see there being much need for the wing. You just aren't going to be going that fast on public roads, and, even when you are you are going to be going in more or less a straight line. The brilliance of the WRXs isn't on highways, its on technical roads.

I've made a lot of stupid purchases in my life, but the WRX isn't one of them. I love it. I just passed 6k miles in it a week ago. I have the CVT and I don't have any regrets about that. Driving with the paddle shifters on a technical road is loads of fun. Killing the traction control is also a blast, the WRX has tons of grip. For me it fit at just the right point on the fun car vs. daily driver spectrum while still being within my roughly 30k budget. I have had no regrets about it at all. It also doesn't stand out that much in a crowd, which for me is a positive. The STI would certainly be more fun than the WRX but at the expense of being a worse as a daily. The GTI to me was the opposite of the STI, slightly less fun than the WRX if a little more refined as a daily. If you have any more WRX questions, be sure and let me know.

I took my WRX down Highway 1 from San Francisco to Los Angeles about a month back. It is one of the great roads in the US, being both scenic and challenging. It would be a tremendous road for a potential west coast HC road trip. Only key would be to do it either very early or very late to avoid all of the Winnebagos slowing down the traffic. Trying to pass 2-3 cars and a Winnebago in a single shot can be pretty darn scary even on a straightaway with good visibility. I hear that after getting down past Morro Bay you can buzz over to the Maricopa Highway (33) to Ojai to have even more fun.

Draft Lottery tonight, followed by WCF Game one. Predictions: Warriors in 5, Hawks in 7.

Just finished the last two episodes. A brilliant ending to an absolutely brilliant show. Mad Men certainly isn't for everyone, but this really is one of televisions masterpieces. Bravo, Matthew Weiner.

You guys may want to check out the "Basketball Breakdown" youtube channel. Coach Nick does a great job doing video breakdowns showing why the pivotal moments of games went the way they went. I highly recommend his videos. For example, check out this video on why the "Andrew Bogut on Tony Allen" strategy worked so well. Spoiler: Tony's lack of awareness helped just as much as the strategy. https://youtu.be/qLEFW3WOuLI

Steve Kerr! Thank you for saving our season! Putting Andrew Bogut on Tony Allen was a stroke of genius.

Blasphemy! Tahoe in the winter is as fun and as beautiful as anywhere else in California! I hope for more reasons than one that we in California have a VERY wet fall/winter this year. The skiing resorts have been badly hurt by the drought just like everybody else.

Oh man, you are crazy! The East has had three straight games decided by buzzer beating shots! I realize Washington has no chance of winning it all without John Wall so that takes a bit of the luster out of Hawks-Wiz, but this Chicago-Cleveland series feels like it really could go either way. I bet the winner of game 5 takes both series. -- As for me, I'm a nervous wreck ahead of GSW-Memphis game 4. If we (GSW) drop this one, the dream will start really looking dim. If we tie it up at 2-2 I still love our chances.
