Sony XA-5400ES
Yes, I can confirm that there is one single DAC not multiple DAC as stated earlier. I'll do more listening and report back. Here's picture of the DAC/Audio board. Here's a bigger one at the DAC.

Sony XA-5400ES
I finally pulled a trigger on the XA5400ES and the unit arrived yesterday. My initial impression is the unit sounds superb given its asking price. I'm comparing the 5400ES with my Exemplar Denon 5910 and thought that it measured up quite well in SACD playback to the Exemplar, of course, with a slight edge going to the Exemplar. The 5400 really outclassed the SACDmods 9100ES that I own, when I compared the two last night. The 54000 is smoother, and has blacker background with more depth & width than the modded 9100ES. I used to own the Cary 306 SACD also but sold it as I prefer the sound of my modwright 777ES & Exemplar 5910 better. The Cary was extremely detailed as well as having amazing fast attack, but it is too edgy and bright for my taste. I prefer my source to be slight more laid back than the Cary.

Holy Crap! The New Stax Omega Looks fierce! (Stax SR-009)
Will this be a limited edition given that it is a 50 year anniversary product? I just hope that the C32 is not too expensive for my pocket.

Sennheiser 800: Time to go balanced. Options.
The boards in all Gilmore Ref units contain both balanced PSU & Circuit boards. Half of the circuit board is populated in SE amp, so all it takes is to populate the remaining parts, add balanced output & input jacks, replace existing 2-Channel DAC-T with a 4-Channel one, and you get a balanced amp. Sennheiser 800: Time to go balanced. Options.
Just read this thread and I'm doing the exact same thing with the Senn HD-800. I will convert the SE Apuresound V3 cable into 4-Pin balanced XLR connection. I'm getting Fitz to turn my Gilmore Reference SE into Balanced so I could utilize a full benefit from my Exemplar Denon 5910 with the Senn HD800 and my Qualia.

Car suggestions?
How about a high mileage Acura TL or Honda Accord. Even at 100k miles, they likely will have at least 100k to go. Plus they drive likes champ.

Best Sennheiser?
HE90 > HE-60 = HD-800 > HD650 > HD600 for me. I'm not exactly sure which should place second, but the HE60 was amazing when I owned it. Wish I can spend more time with the HD-800 to make the determination. To my ears, nothing move me likes the HE90. It is colored no doubt but it is very musical headphones. I agreed with Wayne on the HD600 vs. HD650 as well.

New, Cheap Dynalo...
Wonder how it will compare with my Gilmore Ref. For that price then, it is very hard to beat.

Audio Technica W1000X
Sorry Todd, I'm waiting for someone else to reaffirm this impression. Budget is tight in my household, unfortunately. No more new headphone for awhile but if ever, it will be the JH13pro.

If that's true, I will be in for a pair. Wish the USD is stronger.
