That is absolutely sick.

Happy birthday buddy!

That is an awesome warning sticker! Why is it 'absolutely perfect'?
-
Well, if you don't like the K81DJ I might know someone who would buy them off of you.
-
Congrats! Not sure who Pfizer is, but from the response it is a good company to work for?
-
Not that I would want you to shell out more money than you already have, but we really need a 181 vs 81 comparison. It is quite possible that the 81 doesn't have some of the same issues. We know from the pictures that it is smaller and doesn't have those lame switches... but I don't think anyone has heard them both.
-
Yeah, the K271S are portable as long as you can pull off the look. Problem is that you need a portable DAC, amp and cable upgrade for them to come into their own... and even I don't want to carry around all that crap every day. Sorry to hear about your experience with the K181DJ. I think I'll be waiting to hear the K81DJ before I buy them now.

Wait until Ed gets his tablet [or whatever he is talking about] back... you might as well give him the cables in advance anyways. Unless blessingx steps up to the plate.

Hmmm... don't listen to the radio enough to be irritated. I hate all that macarena type stuff though. Nails down a chalkboard.

If Tori Amos is a guilty pleasure... I am... most guilty.

Ben - Yeah, there is some info in the K181/K81 thread on head-fi... they are a fair bit bigger. It's those geeky switches that kill me though. ojnihs - How do the K81DJ's sound compared to the K271S. Do you find they need amplification?
-
Just saw some better pictures and man, are the K181DJ's ever dorky looking. I am now considering the K81DJ instead. I think that given the size and price of the K181DJ you are better off getting the K271S or K171S. The K81DJ is around twice the size of the K26P supposedly... which is just about right for me. I think I might actually sell off the Shures. I like them well enough, but am missing full sized headphones on the go.
-
I've been considering selling my Shure E4's and getting them... how do they isolate? I used to use the K271 Studio's portably and they offered just the right amount of isolation.

Well... I should hope so. -
Well, they are girls.

Why should Tegan and Sarah be a guilty pleasure? They're great. Anyways, all I can think of right now myself is Eminem and David Bowie.

Sounds good, can't wait.

Well, I heard the K701 on Sunday and there was absolutely no comparison between it and either of the modded K340's at the meet. Too bad we didn't have a stock pair of K340's to compare. EDIT: Just realized that wasn't too clear. I preferred the K340's by a large margin. The K701 sounds like a K340-Light to me... and it seems to have the same issues with soundstaging that Sennheiser headphones exhibit. Admittadly on a smaller scale though.
-
How do you find yours in comparison to your K340's Matt?

Just posted this at that other forum... s'pose it should be here too. LOL, I love that picture of Jamie and the Senns... I think that needs to be someones avatar or something. Quick impressions, more later. The PS-1's are the only headphone I have heard that do imaging as accurately as the K340's. They don't have as large of a soundstage, but their soundstage has the same quality and is quite large for a grado. A fair bit bigger than the HF-1's, which have a very nice soundsage themselves. They are definately bass monsters, but it's not incoherent. Quite nice with most music... Tribe Called Quest and Massive Attack sounded amazing on them. They had a wee bit too much bass for Tori Amos though. If I had to have only one headphone [and could afford them], the PS-1's would definately fit the bill. They combine most of the qualities that I like about the K340 and the HF-1 with few comprimises. The comprimises are there however and I am quite happy with my pair of headphones for now... though you'd better believe I'll be keeping my eyes on the F/S forum. Jamie's tube amp is quite nice, though I think doesn't sound too much like a tube amp. If anything the Lavry sounds more tubey and it uses transistors! That said, his source and amp mate perfectly with the PS-1s. They were definately missing something on the Lavry. The K701 was the other headphone I was really itching to hear. They were slightly dissapointing... though only because I already have the K340's and they fell short in a few areas. They seemed to share some of the soundstaging issues that Sennheiser headphones have and their mids weren't what I would expect from an AKG. Quite neutral and I can see how some would love them, but not for me. All in all I would say that they came across as a slightly handicapt K340-Light. And as far as the styling... what were they thinking!?!? I also got a chance to hear the Hornet and the SR-71. The Hornet seemed to suffer from a severe lack of soundstage... very forward sounding. Ok with the Grados, but not the best portable amp I've heard. The SR-71 was quite a bit better in this regard though seemed to have less drive. I could be happy with it as a portable amp.

Nah, the PS1 has too much bass... at least at the volumes I listen at.

Hmm what could be in the wood crate on my doorstep???

Am I the only one that hasn't heard of this thing? Looks cool though.
