Joining the bandwagon to post the fact that I contributed before... I seriously do appreciate Head-Case, thank you everyone for making it so informative and fun.

Perhaps I was too broad in what I first said...all I mean is that the mainstream and most people come from a speaker perspective, and if you've followed any of the magazines or other forums, I think its fairly clear that they're not fully aware of headphones and their needs or opportunities. This is not a problem until someone from this side barges in proclaiming headphone greatness. It is not an insult to point out one's lack of experience. None of us can give a qualified opinion on everything. Not even aerius

I don't recognize that guy, but as a general rule most "sound professionals", "audiophiles", etc. have shittastic knowledge of or experience with headphones. When you have nothing for comparison, anything will sound good.

Yeah, I know that, but someone out there's gonna bite and then the high water mark will become more permanent.

I've been talking with someone trying to sell a pair of PS-1s, just out of curiosity (as an aside to another transaction), and it certainly has influenced his asking price. The market is frankly too dumb to make the distinction.

I'm currently working on the seller for a return/refund. Just wanted to be sure I wasn't being an idiot and missing a quick fix. In the mean time I'll probably do more searches on the "Grado grattle" anyway. Thanks again for all your help, I really appreciate it.

I looked at the drivers and couldn't see anything, and then used a rubber bulb blow thing to blow lightly at the driver, and it's still there. If it helps at all, the rattle is stronger the lower the pitch. Update: The rattle attenuates significantly, almost to the point of no detection, if I press the cups to my head. Removing the earpads changes nothing. Also, the rattle starts only at high (but not extremely high) volume.

So I just acquired a pair of HP-2s. While testing them out today, I detected a bass rattle in the right driver. Confirmed this using test tones from the RealTraps site. The rattle does not show up with my HD650s, so I'm inclined to think its not my other gear. However, I don't have another source/amp combo to test on. Is this sort of thing fixable? Should I just return the headphones to the seller? Am I being stupid and missing anything? I would greatly appreciate any and all help.

Used Cobalt Cable ICs? I have a pair I like better than my Blue Jeans, but that's only regarding cable flexibility and appearance. I think the Blue Jeans are too inflexible- although I don't have LC-1, but Belden 1694A, which is stiffer, the Cobalt stuff is really easy to work with. Also, I think the connectors w/ their white and red rubber things look cheap and stupid. I've never compared ICs re: sound. Their new price is high, but I got a 1.5m RCA pair for ~$30-40 on Head-fi.

I'm convinced Toby's replacement is pure evil. There's something off with her. Still not used to all the changes from Season 4, hopefully Season 5 will go better...
