RMAF 2012--October 12-14--Denver, CO
That would be funny but how can anybody get a patent for something that has been done for almost a century? Perhaps I should patent the electrostatic earspeaker and then sue Stax...

Indeed, nothing new about that so the patent would be very hard to enforce.

This makes even less sense to me. Granted we are talking about tiny amounts of power so it isn't a problem to drive the crossovers but why not have it in the amp where good full size components can be used and then feed 3 different amps for each driver? Better yet, use an active crossover (non DSP) and have no phase issues.

Ehh, what's the point of that system then besides subpar amplification? Aren't they still using a ALO Rx in there?

Audeze LCD-2
Sorry about that, that was my evil twin brother Syrgir!! ...the only word in Icelandic that rhymes with Birgir.... He's right though, the HD800 is the best dynamic transducer I've heard. Almost as clean as the HE60 which is no small thing. The LCD-2 is fun but the top end is quite limited and the bass has issues.

Yeah the LCD-2's are good but a properly driven HD800 is just way better.

DIY Stax step up transformer
Not really in the grand scheme of things. What I'd really like to try is some vintage bifilar wound Peerless or McIntosh iron...

I finished working at 9am today...

Taket H2+ & OTL Monoblocks?
Yup, they need more current than esl's but less voltage so a special amp is needed. The Krell MRA might also work in a pinch too...

And now what did you do TODAY?
Indeed, I'll send Jacob some of my old dull knifes so he's safe. This is what I did today, refurbished a L-Pro and a SRM-1 Mk2 Pro for a guy who lives next door to the bakery. Found me on HF.... Arc and headpad were beyond saving so a LNS replacement comes in handy plus the amp got a good cleaning, new caps and a thorough test. It helps to know the neighborhood baker...

Time for some Stax SR-Sigma love......
I was just handed a SR-Lambda Pro to refurbish so I guess I can try the diffuse field EQ after all... Yup, all the electrolytic caps need to be replaced. Most are axial bot the BC caps are excellent.

Time for some Stax SR-Sigma love......
The SRA-12S is a nice amp (I have two here) but it really needs to be refusbished at this point. It runs very hot and the caps don't age all that well... Haven't tried it yet, KGSSHV and HE90-Signature takes up all listening time.

Just get Multicore or Kester. Both are very, very nice.

Some of my staff felt sick when they saw the pic so you are not alone. I took the splinter out myself so nothing to tell. None of my needle nose pliers could get to it so I just put pressure on top of the nail and used a screwdriver to slowly nudge it out until I could get a good grip on it. Now the finger is very swollen but seems to be healing just fine.

They never do listen but it's still a good idea to add this feature. Only problem is that the amp needs to be dialed in again after doing the change. They could just add a servo though... I was offered a very derelict example of a LNS for parts or repair so that's where the drivers come from. I needed to do some work on them and one has some noise from time to time so they are perfect for some testing. The LNS is also my favorite Lambda so that made the choice easier. I do have a Lambda Sig here too so I might do the change at a later date. They will certainly be a lot less obvious inside the HE90 frame then the gold LNS drivers. As for the parts, well I asked nicely. I'm friends with the Sennheiser distributor here so he can order pretty much anything for me.

Wuss!!! I really wish Stax would just market a 737 already with this option switchable.

And now what did you do TODAY?
Running out of solder... that is next to impossible. For me it was a slow day with mostly running errands and trying to figure out why my friends brand new Dynaudio active speakers shock me through the RCA's when they are turned off. Then there was this nice piece of wood I managed to cram underneath my fingernail and dragged out by myself... Took about 30 minutes as none of my pliers could get a grip on it. Pure joy but I'm a viking so...

The 727/009 combo does work but I do think the mod would be worthwhile. You could always pickup a used 727 and do the mod on that one...
