  1. ^ Indeed
  2. Took a quick look. Meh Sound Quality is divided up into Freq. Response, Sensitivity (?), THD (text isn't clear as it is labeled High THD?) and Impedance. I don't think Impedance really plays a roll in sound quality (unless your device pukes trying to drive it). Same with Sensitivity. Pretty useless IMHO.
  3. Ehhh, the fucking death star strikes again... I had heard that Sprint was going to buy them. Can we say m-o-n-o-p-o-l-y?
  4. Happy Birthday Al!
  5. Happy Birthday to both of you!!!
  6. So you know it all? (Or more than "all" according to your Venn diagram above)? That will go over well...
  7. Yeah, whatever. Why don't you return the amp to dannyB and let him deal with it?
  8. Happy Birthday!
  9. Western Digital Caviar Green 2TB, a pair of Ecco shoes for work. And a pair of Fostex T50RP phones. Do these things sound like shit stock or what My brother will be modding these for me.
  10. Monkey gave you a very good suggestion, though it might be hard to come by on your side of the pond. As for modding the X-Can, you could try Pink Floyd's site (can't remember it offhand). Much X-Can modding going on there. Never listened to one though (stock or otherwise). Never had a desire to either. Hmmm, twats or assholes...
  11. If I were you I would make the seller take it back... of course I wouldn't have bought it in the first place.
  12. Nah, both the diodes are there. I just don't see any point to this "mod". Of course I haven't seen the bottom side of the board. Both diodes are being fed by a CCS, which should be equal current in each leg. The pot can vary that between legs, I presume for offset adjustment. Note, I've never built a KGSS, so might be talking out my arse.
  13. It appears that the bias for the 2sk389 has been flipped, but I don't see why you would want to do that. I also don't see that this would flip the input phase? Assuming the headwize schematic is still accurate. Of course I could be missing something
  14. x2 what Jim said! And congrats Bryan on the 2nd interview!
  15. Yes, 8000 words to describe testing (mostly) on a $129 DAC is silly, but I think the main jist of his rant was the "design by ear" crowd. A previous piece of gear that I owned was done by one of these and it was littered with problems, some audible, some only interfering with lifespan. While I think that listening is an important part of the design process, ignoring things on a technical level shouldn't be tolerated either.
  16. It sounds like you are inexperienced in electronic measurement, and probably also in safety when dealing with high voltage equipment? If you do proceed on this, please do a google on safety. At a bare minimum, NEVER perform measurements with both hands. Keep one hand in your pocket or away from the equipment (and not touching metal, etc.) If it were me, I would use some clip leads of appropriate voltage rating and clip them onto the test points with the amp off/unplugged. Be aware that without bleeder resistors, capacitors can remain charged up to high levels, even with the equipment off and unplugged. They could stay that way for days without being properly discharged. My advice would be to leave this to someone with experience. Is this an amp that you just received, or have you owned this for some time? Not clear from your postings whether this is something that just occurred under your ownership, or if you bought it and it arrived working like this?
  17. In this pic the transformer looks like it has clearly shifted towards the back corner of the case. I would loosen the nut/bolt and slide the transformer so it is centered in the rubber disc and hold downs, then re-tighten the bolt.
  18. Hello Ari! (to paraphrase your opening) Holes: just use the Hole command (lower left in the toolbar) and size it appropriately. I'm using 4.445mm right now on a board and it about right for a 4-40 screw. As for the board dimension, use the info (i) command on each of the lines. In the dialog box, you can resize these as you see fit. I always make sure the lines are straight as well (yours aren't) by making that dimension identical. Schematic looks right from what I can tell, but I agree about the diodes. E=You could just use 1N4148s or the like for a small one. I'd never let Eagle do the routing, but this looks OK.
  19. Sorry to hear the bad news Driftwood. And Mike, I'll be hoping for the best.
  20. Happy Birthday!
  21. Yes. Sorry to hear that Nate. It really effects me (and I'm sure most people) when little kids die. One of my co-workers had a son who passed away when he was 3 from liver cancer that he had had since he was born. Choked me up, and still does a bit to this day when I think about it.
  22. Eewww... plastic wheels Watch out for these...
  23. ^ Begin with a "P"?
  24. At first I liked the new software. Not so much now... sorry.
  25. Happy Birthday Nate! Hope you have a great one!
