    Godspeed Naaman!

Stay safe Naaman... we'll be thinking of you!
  2. Happy Birthday!
  3. I use a halogen shop light that I got at Menards for <$30 IIRC. Same basic form factor as the normal florescent hanging shop lights, but much whiter light. Plus an optivisor.
  4. Sorry to hear that bigguy! And congrats Naaman!
  5. That's kind of what I figured, but thought I would ask.
  6. I'd like to go ahead with this if you have room. Is there an upper limit on cap size (uf) as I have some Erso caps that are actually rather good. Also, what voltage do these need to be? The ones I have are 250V IIRC.
  7. I might be interested in this for my brother, but I'll need to check with him to see if this is something he might like. Chris
  8. Happy Birthday!

I assume these will work for normal Ipods (nano, etc.) as well?
  12. Yep, good luck. How soon is your surgery scheduled?
  13. I was out with my wife yesterday and she was looking at beads when I ran across some beads that might work for this called bugle beads. They are available in both glass (czech glass) and in what they refer to as base metal (whatever that is), something like these: Beadfx - Liquid Metal and Tube Beads Apparently you can get different lengths and diameters.
  14. SPDIF is a system; the transmit circuitry, the cable/connectors and the receive circuitry. If you are using RCA connectors, you have deviated from 75 ohms right there. Most transmit/receive circuits are also not terminated correctly (regardless of equipment price). The cable length also matters. Jocko, etc. all think that 1.5m or greater is the minimum length. Dan Lavry thinks it should be as short as possible. I would tend towards the >1.5m. Of the cables you tried, the Stereovox has a good reputation for being technically correct. You can search diyaudio and diyhifi.org for more technical details. Dan Lavry posted on hf in a cable thread regarding the length issue, but Jocko is/was an RF engineer and knows what he is doing (if you can get him to tell you ).
  15. Happy Birthday!
  16. Very nice Kevin. That is one impressive project!

  20. Happy Birthday Nate!
  21. The caps he used had a Dv/Dt of 1200 or so IIRC. I figured out which ones they were at one time, but could never find them... probably have to go direct which he can do easily, but us mere mortals can't
  22. I seem to recall reading this on the DynaHi thread on hf. I was skeptical, but I do know that Dr. Gilmore used some crazy fast Illinois Caps in his original Dynalo supply psu (last caps in the PSU). Just curious how big of FMs you were using? 470uf I would guess... I thought I would try 100uf in the one I am nearing completion on, but might try some film in it and see if I hear anything.

    Diptrace?

2.0.07 is the one I am using. I ripped up all the traces and decided to route the signal stuff manually, as I already knew how I wanted them done. I'll let the autorouter deal with the remnants after I lock the ones I did manually

    Diptrace?

I did a schematic first and used that to generate the board... only way to do it IMO. Fortunately, it will import Eagle libraries (when exported in the correct format), which helps alot. I was having a hard time figuring out how to do my own in Diptrace, and since I can't use it at home (PC only), my time is limited.

    Diptrace?

How do you autoroute one at a time? Also, is there an easy way to set default trace width? It seems to default to a pretty small trace. I did figure out how to set the width for an entire net, but would like to also default tos omething larger.
