  1. MisterX is a good builder (somehow thought this might have been DIY...) The AD8620/8610 are typically rather bright and sterile sounding. Between that and the BUFs, there is alot of room to play in terms of the sound of these. The rest of the parts are pretty standard for Pimeta builds, other than maybe the Cardas wiring, which probably makes no difference in sound. If you don't DIY, it may be a moot point however.
  2. Ya know, you could do some opamp rolling and maybe even do something with the buffers on your Pimeta before you just roll over and buy a new amp... like maybe an OPA2107 on the L/R, something decent on the ground, look into doing some discrete buffers? BUF634s don't sound very good to my ears, and discretes that cost all of about $5 in parts to build (assuming you can etch your own boards) absolutely kick their silicon asses. Just a thought...
  3. Nice!! Forgive my Grado high-end newbishness, but which ones are those? HP1000?

    WHERE REKS?

    Is Reks OK?
  5. Redco was linked two posts above... read first

    WHERE REKS?

So what, you were standing (kinda) and not hemoraging, so they figured they could take off? Asswipes... What kinda jacket was it? If Dusty can't find a match, the manufacturer might be able to supply one... Damn Reks... I'd take Tom up on his offer.
  7. I'm by no means a Grado expert (I only own SR-60s), but I would stay away from the SR-125s. I had a pair and got rid of them because I didn't like them as much as the 60s. If I were going to go up, the 225s would be the first ones I looked at.
  8. The Senn requires more voltage swing to drive, but less current. A home power amp has no problem with voltage swing... driving adequate current for the 4 ohm and 2 ohm (and possibly 1 or less) ohm loads is more of a problem. Conversely, in headphone amps, particularly portable ones powered by 9V batteries, the voltage swing is usually harder to achieve than the current levels necessary to drive Grados.
  9. Yeah, the basic article is fine. I don't see anything that I would consider to inaccurate as far as it goes. It is meant to be an entry level overview of amplifier concepts, and as such is fine.
  10. Happy Birthday kidz!!!
  11. Dual volume controls have been used on a few classic preamps, notably the Audible Illusions Modulus. And these aren't even balanced... two mono volume pots. As noted earlier, this also handles any balance concerns in a speaker rig.
  12. Sometimes Partsolver carries sony parts, but I couldn't fine that model. Direct from Sony: http://servicesales.sel.sony.com/ecom/accessories/web/viewItemDetail.do?operation=getItemDetail&itemID=38046&category=6&categoryName=Headphone&searchOperation=modelSearch&searchText=mdrf1 Hope yer bending over already....
  13. I'd be interested in reading that also, if you don't mind. Chris
  14. Oh, you have a chassis BNC and need to put an RCA terminated cable on it? I thought you needed to go the other way... BNC cable to an RCA jack
  15. Yeah, it's called replace the RCA with a 75 ohm BNC
  16. Cherry x2, natural finish, like this:

    facial hair

I had a full beard for 20+ years (including my wedding ). I had a good beard trimmer, and kept it rather short all the time (never liked the long beards). Finally shaved it off a little over a year ago (right before winter, naturally), and immediately remembered why I grew it in the first place... I hate shaving . Still clean shaven, but I try to limit my shaving to once a week, on Sunday, whether I need it or not My only problem is that stubble looks good on younger guys, but on old guys, you look like a fucking bum... oh well.
  19. Happy Birthday!

    Fluke 179?

Who's the dude that is a metrologist over on head-fi? I thought he said to stay away from the Fluke 17x series and go for the 18x series instead... dammit, can't remember his name (handle). bigcat39 is the one. But, $135 isn't a bad price I wouldn't think (haven't priced them lately though).
  21. No, that was coco-treating... different. A friend told me that he heard from someone that if you do the dynamat mod, it takes like 47 man-years for burn in or something like that. I'd let em go 50 before listening, just to be safe tho...

  23. How about the non-responsiveness to any technical questions (from what I have read)? I find that disturbing... not that I would be a likely customer anyhow, but still.
  24. Just watched a marathon of the first 3-4 episodes of this the other night... not bad. About a HS chem teacher (played by the guy who was the dad on Malcolm in the Middle) who is diagnosed with terminal cancer, and decides to make meth to provide for his family when he's gone.
  25. Just wait for the poll Wayne's reply was a good one... the OP seems to be contemplating it
