I'd had this idea for some time. I think in the next couple years or so, I'll just buy my own AP. Perhaps I would be willing to offer a service where you send me your amplifier and I measure it... useful to separate the wheat from the crap DIY builders (and more than a few commercial entities as well, I'd guess)... Obviously I wouldn't be able to go for one of the current models, but the System One might dip down into my territory.

Not all Dynahi run hot as hell, just the ones where the builder didn't bother to take care of the heat properly.

well, there's a lot to love about the radio. I really was impressed by the SB3 "interface", and the new interface is many times over better. My largest complaint is lack of remote, and more buttons on the front. I liked the minimalist design of the SB3 (and would have prefered a minimalist remote too). Again, if I knew that it didn't come with a remote, I'm not so sure I would have jumped on it as fast. My wife is happy with the iTunes integration, and we're both curious about what apps will be available. The Flickr one interests us the most, but the screen is just a bit too small for it to really be all that practical. Sound is pretty good, I'd like to see a cross-section picture to see how the designed the interior of the thing to get half-decent sound out of it.

yup, I like those caps as well I'm not sure how I'm going to mount these RXF in my case, as it's a P2P PSU. Now that they are so much smaller than I figured they would be, I'm thinking I could put them on a chunk of PCB and be done with it. The supply is a RCLC supply and I wired it up last night and the result was exactly what PSUD2 predicted. Scary huh. Looks like I have 20mVAC ripply under load. The supply is 10 ohm -> 1.5uF -> 48H -> 20uF. I was thinking I could split up the last 20uF into 10uF -> R -> 10uF, but might not mess with it, as I'd probably have to up the first cap so I'd have some voltage to drop over this last resistor... I'm probably overthinking things, as it's going into a regulator anyways

These are the cutest little caps. I was looking for a 1.5uF cap >600V rated cap and for some reason this must be a non standard value, as there weren't that many choices. Anyways, looks to be stacked film construction. Nice for the price ($8 not including the the PcX discount of the month). I also got a pair of the 10uF/600V caps which were $13 (not including discount). A 10uF/200V Wima sells for $13 at Mouser.

for traditional drill press use, I bought a few select fancy bits. After talking to a few people, it seems parabolic and slow spiral bits are the two best choices for what I plan on doing. As for material, I went with M-42 cobalt and for finish choice I choose bright. Again, these choices are in line with my intended use. There are millions of potential combinations it seems. There's no way I could afford an entire index of these. From what I was told, Cleveland is pretty much the best money can buy. They ended up costing around $5-$7 each. I also did some research and bought some very nice taps. I chose both taper and bottoming versions of the popular thread sizes. I was able to even get H1 ground thread limit versions of the bottoming taps, which is super cool. They weren't cheap though, but the bottoming tap is really the proper tool for tapping blind holes in heat sinks, or so I was informed. For the mill conversion, I'm working on that list now
