I think we both intrepreted your comment "And the reason for the 6-pin jack is that it was what they had" as meaning that Stax only had 6-pin jacks and the 5-pin jack didn't exist yet.

mine just arrived! Frame is much nicer than it looks in the pics. Much easier to drive than I imagined. Good attention to driver to ear placement. Comfortable. I have a small gap where I always have a gap, behind my ear and down a bit, but hard to say if this is a big deal (it is on the SR-007 for example) What looks to be a lack of decent strain relief on the drivers is a bit worrisome, but I haven't opened them up, just peeked in the hole. Cable... who provided input on this? Sorry, fail. Ok, queuing the test material up
