no, just a slight against another object fashioned from wood... All in good fun of course

where would the tubes go then Bottom mount is okay to dissipate a few watts, heat will conduct to the case as much as possible before starting to "rise", as it has a lower thermal resistance.
-
Oops, should have mentioned that. Yes indeed. Jacob and I agreed that HASL would be better choice though for his surface mount boards.
-
something like this would be cool: or this with the bottom mount heat sink:

yeah, how did I miss that? I get an extra inch in height with the Context Engineering case though: http://store01.prostores.com/servlet/thescienceshop/the-2228/8.5%22-L-x-6.15%22/Detail ... keep 'em coming

I think Micropak "C" might work, it works with a 7" wide PCB. Looks like there is very little room under the board though? Trying to find out how much room, but it isn't clear. Maybe it's an option you specify when ordering? hm.

at least they aren't blue and orange I suppose

heh, I can try and find one. One thing I've learned is that you have to be very careful with the edge that gets milled to insert into the extrusion. I put this case together about 20 times and once or twice snagged the corner and had to reshape it. I did screw up a few times placing the little angle pieces that secure the front/rear the top and bottom, seems simple enough, but... One thing I didn't like was having a screw head on the front of the panel, so I blind tapped it from the back of the panel... the problem with this is that then you have a threaded hole in the panel, and a threaded angle bracket, which doesn't join so well together, so there were further modifications. I'm not sure how much you've looked at the .pdf FPE provides, but I'm hoping this is somewhat clear. Things get expensive fast though with this approach.
-
I've done this a few times. It's very expensive as it turns out to require four panels. For a project this size, I'd expect it to be around $150-$175 per case. edit: I'll spec it out though

Well, I'm looking at finalizing a project board that is currently 6.17" x 7.3". The 6.17" needs to be the width of the case, and the 7.3" needs to be the depth. I've looked at a few vendors, as I'm trying to find a width that will accommodate a few of the Hammond 1455 type cases. The Hammond unfortunately is too shallow. I looked at Context Engineering and notice they have one that supports a 6" card width, that might be able to work, with a 8.5" standard depth. I poked around a bit at Teko as well. Anyways, I know a few of you have gone through this and was wondering if you might have a few suggestions? The main deal is I need to finalize the size of the board before going much further and I'd like to support more than one case (if possible). Thanks!

I feel that the quality at Golden Phoenix is excellent, so I went with them. I know a lot of people feel different about this, but in the end someone just had to make a decision. In this case, I have a relationship with them and didn't really want to have to start up another account. Also, I didn't feel that the extra 60% or so that Imagineering wanted was really worth it. For a good number of us, that cost really added up. I hope it all works out With regard to shipping, at the moment, everything will be coming to me so I'll need to look at shipping again once everything arrives. I added a few dollars so that I can go ahead and purchase more electrostatic bags and boxes and other packing materials. I will still need to charge for the final shipping costs though.

Okay, the numbers are in. I was able to negotiate the final cost down to $10 per board, which I'm rather proud of. This is for both board revisions (there was like a $0.10 difference or something, that I just rounded up and subtracted that from the prototyping costs) and this includes the prototyping costs and a total of four extra boards that were needed to meet numbers. I guess I will take the payments. If the money is already in your account, there is usually no charge. Otherwise, please add 3.4%, or even better use a PayPal calculator, which I'd prefer that you do to double check my numbers below. I'll be sure to let you know if the amount transferred is correct. My PayPal account is [email protected] Deadline is... Friday maybe? Jacob still has a few changes to make, but I think this might just be doable. Assuming standard PayPal fees, here's what I get: luvdunhill - $103.30 (US) naamanf - $51.80 (US) vvs_75 - $103.30 (US) digipete - $41.50 (US) j4cbo - $257.78 (US) kevin gilmore - $82.70 (US) looser101 - $62.75 (non-US) pars - $41.50 (US) smeggy -$31.20 (US) digger945 - $144.49 (US) Icarium - $165.09 (US) Spain - $270.86 (non-US) Thanks guys!

New Woo Audio Electrostatic Headphone Amp!
luvdunhill replied to Voltron's topic in Headphone Amplification
My guess is Spritzer is referring to a rumor that it was DC coupled throughout. -
really? Since when did Illusion stop selling theirs?
-
I think Steve is already on it. I heard he was going to use Lignum vitae heatsinks.
-
agreed, this would be a great project for swt61
-
mind control device Actually, it's a tuner... play a note and it tells you if the pitch is correct.
-
heh, unless the gain is halved when doubling the boards. Doesn't the slew rate doubling happen only when you have a true differential input design, not when you glue four single ended amps together?
-
I have yet to figure this phenomena out. Have you tried the SR-007 with the KGSS, and do you have similar complaints there?
-
It's much easier to just modify the existing power supplies in your various components. Once you do that, the only thing you might look at is a nice isolation transformer.
-
jealous Fantastic work! I sent you a PM just now. Again, nice work! Since you've gone back to a four point routing shape for the board, what is the board size difference, I suppose I'll need that info for the board quote anyways.
-
sure why not. Either guess, or calculate things. I'd try some Black Gate N/NX as well... and the Russian teflon bypasses with the M-Caps that were included in your kit. Have fun with it
-
I'm assuming these would be for the Pearl? Things get a lot more expensive in the balanced world where you need double. I'd recommend looking at your signal chain and trying to go as low as you can with the caps, to save you some cash.
