  1. oh that's much nicer than a shill disclosure agreement
  2. I think that NDA was really a SDA
  3. yup, this is exactly what I'm going to try tonite, as well as not paralleling the secondaries. I'll try these two things with and without a 100k resistor or so to provide some sort of load. I almost didn't fuse the primary side, as I have a fuse on the power supply board... glad I decided to do this, and a reminder that this is always a good idea!
  4. Well, what I meant was if you ask for a custom transformer that is 50VA and you would like 50V @ 1A they push back and say, what about 50V @ 0.8A. I'm not sure if they are ensuring 20% headroom, or if they run conservatively. That's a good question. As for 60VAC, yeah that will work. Just tuck the center tap and other taps out of the way somewhere. As long as you don't need to parallel the two windings, you should be fine. I'm actually having problems with an R-Core right now due to paralleling the secondaries is causing the transformer to blow 3A fuses with nothing on the secondaries. I'm not sure if it's a defect or what.. I hope to get to the bottom of this tonite and will keep you posted.

  6. Nate, did you have to put a load resistor across the SSR to make it work properly? I cannot quite make it out in the pics.. Definitely the nicest beta22 I've seen
  7. seems unbelievable really. Digital volume is the suck, no way around that.
  8. dunno about profit, but you can get exactly what features you need and you can pick and choose where to spend your money... whether on a display, or simple knob, or autoformer-based control versus resistive and balanced versus unbalanced, multiple input boards, etc... of course you can cut cost on the enclosure, for example.
  9. what about getting a builder to assemble some of the Bent Audio TAP components for you? Might be able to save a bit of cash this way...
  10. A Parasound product without a JC in the title? What gives? John is slacking I suppose..
  11. I'm not sure if you have this album, but "Waltz for Debbie" demonstrates this quite well. There are spatial clues out the wazoo in that recording that sound oh so perfect with the SR-007. With the He I felt like more of an outsider than right in the middle (literally) of the performance.
  12. looking good. Does that big Black Gate get in the way when the laser is near the center of the CD?
  13. oh, so what does this lawton audio have to say?
  14. well, his approach is definitely more on the up-and-up than praising the inferior unit prior to selling it...
  15. good eyes, it indeed is a newer version of the one ATC used, minus the custom wave guide the ATC uses. edit: actually, I suppose they are indeed different. The raw ATC driver is an SM75-150S... learn something new every day Looks like you can buy them here: https://secure.wilmslow-audio.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/48
  16. I love dome mids too
  17. If I use these in this particular application, that I cannot mention due to being ostracized from DIY all together, I'd take the Nelson Pass approach, which is run them so slow they won't even start at the running voltage. In order to start them, I'll provide a small boost at start-up time and then decrease the voltage until they are slow. In this case, deepak may be right and all fans will perform about the same..
  18. you didn't just "happen to have this Maple on hand" did ya?
  19. reread the PDF documentation, I think towards the end there is a note about grounding with 2 cases.
  20. does anyone here perhaps know anyone big into the computer modding scene? I'm specifically looking for a recommendation for a 120mm fan that is dead quiet.. I plan on running it as slow as possible as well. Currently, I'm looking at the Enermax Enlobal "magnetic-barometric" fans...
  21. and took it off the pleather couch?!
  22. so, I don't really have a good recommendation on this one. I also used shielded cables, which adds another level of complexity. I think theoretically, a star ground at the outputs would be best, with the output terminals being close together and use a star washer to maintain good ground to the case (i.e. around the RCA jacks). I'd isolate all the input grounds and connect the earth to the output star ground. Don't worry about the DC supply ground, just attach it to the board and you'll be fine. Are you using 2 cases?
  23. If you post images of the PCB, I'll show you where they are. There are a few other caps worth upgrading as well, but I need to see pics to jog my memory
  24. <sanity value=off>2 Mundorf MCap Supreme Silver/Gold 8.2 uf 1200 VDC</sanity>
