  1. hm, you should have included D1, yes optional, but still a good idea. Also, LED should go to V-
  2. is the LED in backwards? and where is the LEDs current source / current limiter whatever-the-term-is?
  3. yeah, I second the question on DIY or no. If DIY, then how much so, low end of the scale being grawk's suggestion, high end of the scale being something that deals with heat sinks and the casework chores that go with it...
  4. not the rocks, but their positioning. You have to look through the material to see the immaterial beauty.
  5. figured I'd try the insanely priced resistors (Duelund silver and carbon). I mean, when your already at ~$1,500 for 4 drivers, what's ~$60 for four resistors? Here's my inspiration:
  6. please hide from swt61, but some primo parts ....
  7. heh, moar amps and modding the DEQ means another year without a complete system no thanks. I'll stick with Speaker Workshop and LEAP and breadboards and massive inductors for now. That said, it would be lots of fun....
  8. and you can mod them 10 ways to sun down if I weren't such a snob, I'd own one and wire it up to each driver in a three way (speaker) and go to town...
  9. I'd also take a shot at reading this: [audio physic] - no loss of fine detail and the Cardas website articles, for example here's one: Cardas Audio
  10. yup, that's what a parametric equalizer does. It just depends how small the buckets are whether or not you can do what your asking. You can with the DEQ. Reason I know is people use it to prototype active crossovers, and need this sort of functionality.
  11. distance between listener and speaker and the distance between the speakers is roughly equivalent? I dunno what the technical definition is ...
  12. I never understood that speaker. First-order, but not time-coincident? I looked very hard at this design, and it's well-worth the study. The design lends itself to forward mid-treble, smaller rooms and the stand height is critical, due to vertical lobing problems. I have some notes around here somewhere, but that's what I remember off the top of my head.
  13. well, to move up the older Space Deck you're looking at $1200 (minimum) without a cartridge. So, the Benz probably has a $200 used market value, so the extra $400 represents a decent percentage increase in price.

    Hum Issue

I'm pretty sure it is possible to damage them this way. Which Hammond trafo doesn't have markings, just out of curiosity?

well, depends on the transformer, but you should observe phasing dots if the transformer manufacturer denotes this. The "dot" corresponds to neutral.
  16. I'm pretty sure soniccraft stocks it. I just bought a bunch of 4 conductor, shielded cable from them, and I think it's blue even.. I'd have to check.
  17. wow, si5 is a really bad website.. i cannot even find it there. Google says they have a replaceable battery though... Also, "Using iPod Classic / Nano 3G with Video 55 Due to a recent change in Apple iTunes software, the Nano 3G and the iPod Classic will no longer broadcast a video signal to the Video 55 when docked in the docking connector. With Apple’s software change, the only way to view video on any existing video player, including the Video 55, is to purchase Apple’s iPod Composite Video Cable, available at Apple retail stores and Apple online at: http://store.apple.com The cable would be used by plugging one end into the 30-pin plug on the iPod or Nano and the other end into the “AV In” plug on the side of the Video 55. Please note that this software change by Apple does not affect the ability to play music from the iPod or Nano through the Video 55 speakers. Previous versions of the iPod are not affected by this change. All previous versions that have video capability can play video through the Video 55 when docked. If you are still having difficulties please email us, and a customer service representative will contact you shortly"
  18. where do I sign up for the Kwanzaa exchange? k thx bye.
  19. grawk, that's a cool solution!
  20. just dawned on me to check for that empower crap, and looks like it is available on our plane (777-200ER) so this may be problem solved!
  21. Hey! So, I'm looking for a portable player of sorts to placate the babies on the way to China. Requirements are long battery life, or the ability to take AA or another battery pack, and pretty much kid proof. Doesn't have to play DVDs directly, if the ripping process is pretty smooth. I prefer the tablet style. Seems like there aren't many options out there... so, I figured I'd ask around.
  22. more likely an audiophile approved light bulb
