in an ideal world, it would be 2 crossovers. and since it never is, then this is my issue. Plus, the crossovers are too simple and cannot do things like impedance flattening, which is very important in the low end region.

hey, random question.. I've bought a bunch of ASC caps recently, and have found the ones that are made in Japan have a different sound to them (for the better). Once you get them, check out the label, and I'll post the label of the ones I have that I'd propose sound better

The Rega Planar 3 (with upgrade motor) and RB300 can scale up much further than budget cartridges. It's a great sounding little system.

yeah, I second the question on DIY or no. If DIY, then how much so, low end of the scale being grawk's suggestion, high end of the scale being something that deals with heat sinks and the casework chores that go with it...

heh, moar amps and modding the DEQ means another year without a complete system no thanks. I'll stick with Speaker Workshop and LEAP and breadboards and massive inductors for now. That said, it would be lots of fun....

and you can mod them 10 ways to sun down if I weren't such a snob, I'd own one and wire it up to each driver in a three way (speaker) and go to town...

yup, that's what a parametric equalizer does. It just depends how small the buckets are whether or not you can do what your asking. You can with the DEQ. Reason I know is people use it to prototype active crossovers, and need this sort of functionality.

I never understood that speaker. First-order, but not time-coincident? I looked very hard at this design, and it's well-worth the study. The design lends itself to forward mid-treble, smaller rooms and the stand height is critical, due to vertical lobing problems. I have some notes around here somewhere, but that's what I remember off the top of my head.

well, to move up the older Space Deck you're looking at $1200 (minimum) without a cartridge. So, the Benz probably has a $200 used market value, so the extra $400 represents a decent percentage increase in price.

well, depends on the transformer, but you should observe phasing dots if the transformer manufacturer denotes this. The "dot" corresponds to neutral.
