What can I use to shield a 100 VA torroid power transformer?
luvdunhill replied to sbelyo's topic in Do It Yourself
Only addition to this is transformer vendors specifying a very high temperature rise or going extremely high on the flux curve are making these calculations hard. So, in addition to these guidelines, you really need to have conservative ratings - or specify them yourselves, which few do. -
Does this kinda work like Goldschlager? I am confused here

Here are some links to consider - there are important things to think about, like line variance, duty, AC RMS current versus DC current, etc. http://sound.westhost.com/xfmr.htm (Read all three sections) http://www.electra-print.com/custompower.php -
Heh, the custom stuff is wound in Canada still.

I suppose my questions would be: How much current does the amp draw (measured) and how much headroom do you have from the spec'ed current? Do you have any DC on the line or things like dimmer switches, etc. that would cause noise? Are signal grounds isolated from earth and in general where does the E pin go (have you implemented a ground loop breaker scheme, etc.) -
Anyone need anything from this vendor? Need to hit a $250 minimum: https://www.rocelec.com/

It does indeed, it's a great performance. I stumbled upon it on eBay and nabbed it, but no it's not generally available, but a few in the series are available at some of the big places at blowout prices, as they are SACD layer only.

Good luck! I would probably watch Yahoo Auctions rather than sending a friend to hunt around Akihabara Town. I will be there weekend after next, though and if I see any I will grab them for KG amp fans - don't hold your breath though.

Yeah, they have to generate a new license.

Picked the wrong time to upgrade Diptrace. The old licenses aren't compatible with the new version so waiting for sales to help me upgrade. I am pretty sure my old license would work on the older version, if anyone was interested in a "slightly used" software license

Look at the TPS7A4700. There are some very creative layouts on eBay even. It's a 4uV noise design and pretty much plug and play. -
Ok, got a differential front end (balanced-balanced and balanced-SE) working today and zeroed DC offset on a whole lot more of these little modules. Seems to perform really well!

That definitely wouldn't have happened on DannyB's forum.

Well, I might have to send some little do-dads for you to try out at some point.

The fabled L3 is likely going to be called the Apsara. I have built that topology in a power amp before, but the headphone amp has considerable refinements over that circuit (which is lovely nevertheless). The tube amp I had at the show was the Copenhagen which is a pentode amp. Also lovely - pentodes are underappreciated. Solid-State Buffer, or just a symbol of convience?
