  1. Nice! I think Jacob will deem that crust 'adequate'.
  2. Yeah, my screens look like Windows 98.
  3. I am curious about this myself. I always thought it was a hysteresis thing. Hysteresis, is a tendency for magnetic media to retain a recording. If you write over it once, and you know the nature of the media, you can figure out if there was a 1 or a zero underneath it based on small deviations from the value it should have been if there was never any data there to begin with. This gets shrunk dramatically the second time, and now instead of two possible values around a known constant, you have two possible values around two possible values. It just gets fuzzier after that. Those values by the way, are pretty darn small to begin with -- one requires extremely sensitive equipment to perform data forensics. And yes, they don't write constant values on any drives any more, they write patterns when they're reformatting, because it makes for a better hard disk anyway. "Like new."
  4. Yeah, I wouldn't. Hire a professional. If you must do it yourself, smoke 'em out first. Also, pick a time when they're docile, like in the middle of winter. Sorry to hear, Chris.
  5. You should have called it an experimental side project...Knucklimator, Illumidragger, I don't know. Just kidding. Thanks for posting it.
  6. Oh, that's right, isn't that the one with the proprietary SSD? Yeah, never mind.
  7. I hate wasting all that CPU power, myself, so the first thing I turn off are all the animations and 3D effects. Sorry. (shrug) I don't know why they call it 'lost' -- I know exactly where mine is.
  8. It is correct that encrypting does nothing, but reformatting the drive should be sufficient for everyone but a professional data retrieval type person (I.E. cyberwarfare types and hardware forensics types). I don't think even someone like geek squad have the technology to find out what bits were on a formatted drive before it was formatted, especially if you use the long form formatting (whatever that's called in Mac/Apple-land). Alternatively, you could just buy them a new SSD -- just get the same kind, and let them put the OS back on.
  9. That might be a BIOS setting -- sometimes it's set so that the hard drive boots first, I.E. always unless it fails. Go into the BIOS settings and look for something like "boot order". Sometimes it's order, sometimes it's on/off, sometimes it's other things.
  10. Skye will meow at Bobby, but it's usually to tap out.
  11. Looks like Tzadik. Me: going back and forth between Echolyn's new one (just released the other day) and BBT's most recent, in anticipation of the upcoming concert. Probably putting Roger Waters' Amused to Death high-res remaster at some point this weekend. All three in 24/96.
  12. That headline is the perfect description. Will read the rest later, thanks. Also watching Last Exile -- why this isn't held in the pantheon of all time great animes (besides Thrice), I have no idea.
  13. There was probably a quantum hole that temporarily opened.
  14. I have a Fishman Loudbox Performer, but I'm using an extended range guitar -- I fully concur with the recommendation of a mini for a uke. Carvin also makes some acoustic guitar amps which are made to order, so would go with your boutique approach to things.. Rivera makes the Sedona. There's also the Fender Acoustasonic and SWR Strawberry Blonde. But I would start with the Fishman Loudbox and be done unless you feel you're missing something.
  15. No. It really doesn't. Just because the observer and 99% of the observees agree, doesn't make it so. You have to establish a causal relationship, and test for the actual causality, rather than just statistical correlation. May I remind you: sausage factory here.
  16. It also depends on how much flavor the pan imparts due to how seasoned it is -- my sister has a skillet that she inherited from my mother that was just magical. You hardly needed to touch anything to it, and it was perfect.
  17. Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp When you write it down in ASCII like that, it sounds funny...
  18. I don't think Brent cares which kind of biscuit it is.
  19. I think Cincinnati handled things extremely well, if I may say so. Other than the initial crime, that is. They excelled in reporting/transparency and a timely indictment, rather than appearing as a good ol' boys network covering for each other. Presentation does a lot for the public's peace of mind.
  20. Yeah, I woke up to smoke once because I fell asleep while listening to my Jolida.
  21. QFT
  22. You know what I found out? Cats only meow to humans. So either she wants something, or she's bonding with...Lauren, you, both?
