  1. More of "artist brings his child's drawings to life" here Clueless Chinese Sherlock fans ask PM for speedier production, don't realize they're asking the wrong guy
  2. I don't even know why that jumping cat is particularly special, but I watched it several dozen times. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=365980490208352 Uh...NSFW.
  3. This fucking rocks. I do need to listen to more jazz, though, that animation was amazing.
  4. Homeland Does anyone else who watches this know what kind of music Carrie Matheson listens to? I know it's jazz, but more specifically -- it's early enough (last century early, not early early) that's it's still recognizably 12 tone and not completely scat or avant-garde, but it's late enough that it doesn't feel obliged to stay within traditional melody/harmony/structure etc. It's not as sparse or abstract as, say, Bitches Brew, so I think it's little earlier than that. She probably listens to a lot of jazz, but the type I am trying to describe is what I have been finding myself craving, and I'm having trouble finding examples. Need to find some harmolodics, because on paper, that sounds like what I'm looking for. Also: The Killing -- I don't know why they call this the killing, but at least they used the singular -- there's only one (well...that we care about). It should be called "Red Herrings". No, I'm kidding, I actually really like this show. The writer is impeccable -- captures the individual, the interpersonal, the social, and the political, and how they all affect each other.
  5. I saw that before -- I just can't imagine a pilot attempting a ...what is that, 15 degrees? ... landing with that magnitude of crosswind -- all it had to do was change significantly, in one direction or the other, and...
  6. That's outstanding for wireless.
  7. No, they're just the only ones I know that throw amazing parties. They had jazz in one place, string quartet in another, corporate rock in a 3rd. I do miss their parties. Yours sounded similarly amazing, if not better because you could actually enjoy it (I was always nervous I'd drink too much and say something stupid, because my boss would always insist on us hanging out together).
  8. Oh, well, "...smoked...". Also: You have found the foodie place.
  9. I think I might need new underpants.
  10. What the L is a "bourbon barrel pork belly"? I mean, I understand bourbon barrel <liquid>, but that one (or any other solid, for that matter) eludes me.
  11. Muh. Therf. Uck. I noticed this at exactly 12:01. Still going to listen to the last little bit, but my expectations will be of sample-size techno... EDIT: Dagnabit, I know this song..."I know, you (incomprehensible) want me, but if you want me, it won't (incomprehensible)..." EDIT #2: Dagnabit, my browser crashed right when you were announcing.
  12. Working from home was just being considerate to the people I'm sharing a space with, it was nothing. Besides, I need to be able to be on the phone, and we get no signal in there. And: thanks! And -- 1200?!?!? Sounds like Booz Allen...

  14. Happy Birthday! (party favour noise)
  15. Solarno, We Three Robot Kings, A Holiday EP Also, Infected Mushroom covering "Breaking a Habbit" (sic) Both are free downloads today. The SoundCloud link never works for me, so I usually truncate the song, and then click on the song. One more: Anneke's brand new SoundCloud page. Also a free download.
  16. Happy birthday, Tom! (party favour noise) I've only met you once I think, but you were a gentleman and a scholar, and you seemed to genuinely enjoy sharing your toys, rather than just looking for validation like the rest of us.
  17. No way.

  19. I'm following a guitar luthier on Facebook who recently noticed that the pieces he cuts out of rectangles for his guitars leave something that's the perfect size for a rifle stock. Yet another serendipitous collaboration. Or maybe they just noticed that there's a lot of whiskey talk on head-case.
  20. Yeah, but it's such a wonderful series, and I think the trade paperbacks are about the same, maybe a couple dollars more. I actually think comics are a good value in general -- only 1-4 dollars for an individual issue, and there's usually a lot packed into them.
  21. Oh, stereo direct, like Mapleshade records are famous for? I was never able to successfully record that way, though I tried. I always made it sound muffled and distant, found myself straining to listen. I suspect the choice of mic has a lot to do with it.
  22. Ended up going to bed early last night -- I think I have a cold, and I think I've had it for a couple days now, so worked from home. (Sniffles + chills == cold; sniffles + chills + aches == flu, right? Then I only have a cold.)
  23. Your daily reminder (I forgot yesterday).
