Tried the Funky Llama malbec last night, a cheap ($6/bottle) malbec. If you set your expectations on "cheap malbec", you will be pleasantly surprised -- I was. It's not as full-bodied (or even as dark or purple) as other malbecs I've had, but flavor-wise, it didn't err offensively in any direction -- I would say it was less on the fruity side of the fruity/earthy scale than the Bodega Norton non-reserva...yet still fruity. So yeah, will probably get another bottle to share with my sister and her friends on Sunday. If she still drinks wine.

Yeah, except I typically get home around 12:30 (actually, later most of the time, and much earlier every once in a while). So by the time I pour myself a glass, feed the kitties, do litter box, and any other meneal chores, it's only like 1 in the morning. I will want to: have drunk the wine, allow it to go through my system, and then take my meds before I go to bed. So I definitely do not have hours. Hence the interest in aerators. I mean, the best I can do is pour a glass before I go to work, put it up on the shelf (out of reach of the kitties), but then it will have breathed for 8+ hours (more likely 12-ish). Isn't that overdoing it? Or should I actually give that a try? Wish I had thought of that today.

This one (Gorm)? Holds 8 per shelf? Also looking at this 180-bottle one, this 60-bottle one, and this one that looks like it holds less than a bottle (I am just looking at that last one). I intend to put my beer in there, too -- wine racks will hold bombers, won't they? I'm still tempted by the J.K. Adams. They had me at "tinker toys". EDIT: And this one, just because it's less than US$1/bottle.

Found two threads, one on the other on interestingly enough. Why should I go one way or the other? I understand the value of a decanter -- lets the wine breathe, albeit in a controlled fashion, while cat hair and asbestos doesn't settle into it. I seem to remember someone (tyrion?) getting something and having a positive opinion of it, but it's not coming up while searching for "aerator'. Something like a hand-held or bottletop device like this one. So...any new opinions on this? I don't have room for that whole let it drip thing, but I could probably find room for a proper decanter/carafe thingy. But I'll probably go with the decanting pourer if no-one pipes up with something that doesn't involve scorpions or shovels or headless women.

Finished Steel Remains -- greatly enjoyed the resolution. The sex scene(s?), not so much. Started Late Eclipses by Seanan McGuire -- yeah, I'm smitten. My favorite recent-discovery author. Has a dark streak, great sense of humor, and a nice mind's eye for fantastical things. Some of the things that happen can be a little too deus ex machina (or rather, dei ex machina), but you know, who cares? That's my superpower: the ability to shrug during fiction. But do you know what she does best? Love. Love of brother, love of sister, love of comrade, love of commander, love of subordinate*...all of its forms, she does well. Even dysfunctional love. Even unrecognized love (e.g. love of the main subject, from the main subject's point of view, without the main subject even realizing it). I think that's what I like best about her. Really going to has a sad when I finish this one, because I will have read everything she's written until the next one comes out. * Try not to read that in Ronald Reagan voice.

Yeah, 2 or 3 years old should be alright. You may want to double-check, that's just my off-hand guess. Me, I'd go with the rebuild option, bullet two. That is, if I were you, I.E. not lazy.

Alright, I'll do that. I did know to let it breathe...but I didn't know for how long, so I appreciate the info. I only let it breathe for not quite an hour.
