  1. I realize it wasn't a bike in Snowcrash, but that put me in mind of pizza delivery being superior for a reason.
  2. This basically confirms what I am saying, I.E. that the answer is no, it's not bit perfect, unless you have all processing turned off:
  3. I doubt it. If any software manipulates the signal at all, the first thing to go would be bit perfection. I'd use hdcd.exe (or equivalent) to decode the HDCD encoding in software, then use that as your input file.
  4. Well, couldn't tell from your original post in this thread. Didn't seem very specific. If I could fairly generate the top 20 questions asked by a newb or a troll (the latter being only a small variation on the former), yours would fit right in.
  5. See, that's the problem right there. You (and other newbs), expect the answers to be handed to you, rather than trying to learn them on your own. It's your responsibility to figure that out, not ours to explain it to you.
  6. I caved and looked: Demians, Mute -- definitely a winner: Here's to hoping I haven't screwed up "the streak".
  7. Did you really lurk, or did you sign up a year ago, and wait until now to start posting? 'cause there's a difference. If you had actually lurked, you would have noticed that we've had bad luck with threads that seem to be started for the sole purpose of "breaking the ice" as it were (trolls, douchebags, asshats, and retards, for the most part), and you would have known what sort of response to expect ahead of time. Your best bet is to go back into lurk mode. Don't know if you're an asshat or not, but if you're not, really, take my advice, read more, post less.
  8. "Hegh, 'et 'o uh ah uh."
  9. Plus, you got to keep your now discontinued color (IIRC). Win.
  10. Would have been the 840's (as that is the only thing I remember bringing to the meet). Might also have used whatever was plugged into the machine (Senn HD650's?). Might also have been Colin's Thunderpantses. Don't remember.
  11. Is that the same amp that was at the Virginia meet a while back? Sorry to be the lone voice of dissent, but I was fairly underwhelmed by it. Maybe there's something magical happening with the LCD-2's, but I just couldn't get it to sing. I think I tried it with my Shures.
  12. Me, now, not in car: Pieter Nooten, Here is Why -- not his first album since Sleeps with Fishes, but first one I'm aware of. Going to have to go back and find the other two.
  13. Eat a lot of asparagus.
  14. The Dick Dale does stand out a bit. Me: In the car, I thought I was listening to the new Filter, but I just found out I wasn't. I have no idea what it is, but it sounds like Filter after he was listening to too much Porcupine Tree and/or solo Steven Wilson. I had something funny happen in my car -- about two weeks ago (just as it started getting really cool overnight) I accidentally left my iPod in the car, and it usually forgets where it is, and resets all my smart playlists (I set up my smart playlists as "...& (playcount == 0)" to force it to pick up where it left off)...but this time it didn't. So since it was cool, I left it, and it hasn't forgotten since. I'm afraid to touch it, the connection was kind of going out, and I'm afraid that if I lift it (it's face down in the glove compartment), I'll ruin the connection. So I'm going to have to figure out some other way to figure out what it is. Whatever it is, I really like it. First song is about 7 minutes long, and has this really cool syncopated bass line.
  15. That was pretty amazing, ackshully.
  16. Reminds me of a girl...worked in Tower...I forget how the conversation came about, but I remember what came next: Girl: I can't wear anything other than black, it makes my ass look big. Me: (stares at girl's ass) I can't imagine that. (long pause) (Editor's note: she really was fairly petite, I wasn't just flattering her...but not having seen her in anything other than black jeans...who knows? But I honestly suspect she was wrong, and that she had one of those typical low self-esteem self-image issues.) Yes, she really didn't mind. Too bad I was married at the time, it was a fine ass. She liked what she called "glam metal": Poison, Cinderella, etc. (hair metal, basically). Don't remember her name, but remember her taste in music...go figure. Oh, and that she was one of those pale-skinned brunettes. And half my age. Just as well...
  17. A-ha, so this is post-SACD redbook CD's. I was following the discussion, but thought maybe that this was pre-SACD redbooks.
  18. My condolences as well, Shelly. Fifth Element is awesome. And how dare you call Milla anything less than beautiful. Also, Gaultier and Moebius.
  19. Too. Fucking. Hip.
  20. The new Filter record, The Trouble with Angels -- dude's been listening to a lot of Porcupine Tree or something. There's some nice unorthodox rhythms and/or time signatures, some nice epic pieces, almost shoegazery, there's one song that sounds like the beginning of Anesthetize...not a bad thing, melikey.
  21. You can also get some idea about the scale by looking at the 1/4" plug.
  22. Hey, don't go ruining my chances at my fortune with your silly logic. How about balanced-upon-balanced? You set up each needle as single-ended rather than balanced. And technically, you still lose any benefit of common mode rejection (with the dual needles), so it's an inferior balanced, not a moar troo balanced. And that's not possessed Justin, that's Justin-with-lasers. I want what he's having.
  23. I love it when they get the eyes right.
