  1. Raytheon is a tactical defense company that has a plant in my hometown, haha. Also, on an unrelated topic, I had a dream about getting a pair of Stax 'phones last night, they sounded like liquid gold. It was wonderful.
  2. Clearly everyone in this forum shares a passion for quality audio reproduction. Regardless of location, financial situation, age, gender, or any other differences we may have, we are united in this passion. My question for all of you is: How and when did you first realize that you wanted more from your audio system? And what did you do about it? I'll start with my story. When I was 15 years old (I think) I asked for a pair of noise canceling headphones for Christmas. I received them from my cousins, a pair of $50 Targus noise cancelling headphones. I loved them! In retrospect they were crap, but I was ecstatic about them. I used them for a while, and then one day they broke. I began to search online for a replacement pair. I read reviews, looked at prices, and finally figured out I could get much better sound quality. I decided on a budget of $100 or under, and began looking. I finally settled on a pair of Sony MDR-7506 cans. I liked them because they were closed and they were 'studio' phones, so I thought they would be as neutral as they come. They finally came and I adored them. I used them contently for 2 years. Then one day, I don't remember when or why, I looked online at other headphones. I found head-fi, and it was all over. I lurked on that forum for weeks, searching for new headphones that were supposedly leagues above my current cans. Then I found head-case, and instantly respected the opinions here more, and continued lurking and researching to find the perfect cans (in my price range, which started at $150). I finally settled on AKG K701s, but then I discovered I needed an amp, and cables, and it just went off from there... I now find myself with a fairly mediocre set-up yearning for better sound. I'm heading off to Tufts this fall and without a true passion for any one subject in school, I am seriously considering studying electrical/audio engineering so I can better understand music and sound reproduction. I have the utmost respect for all of you who can order parts and just design and/or build an amp. I envy that ability and that knowledge. So that's my story. I'm extremely curious to hear yours!
  3. So I was really bored at work, and decided to look at some optical illusions, and found ways to see (or not see I suppose) where your blind spot is. Its fun! Just close one eye, focus on the dot or the cross, and move your head closer to the screen and eventually the dot (or the cross depending on what you originally focused on) will disappear! Oh and if you want it to work you have to look at the left object with your left eye closed or the right object with your right eye closed. This one below is cool because it shows how your brain is remarkably good at filling in missing information.
  4. Hmm, next time I should probably figure a question like that out for myself.
  5. So, flats are the SR60 replacement pads?
  6. I shall keep my eyes open. Thanks
  7. I was considering that but didn't want to risk hating them and blowing $150+ for them
  8. I got a question (or a few...). Would buying a pair of SR60s be a good way to see if I liked the Grado 'sound' so to speak? Also, would it be a good way to tell if Grado headphones were comfortable for me or not? Or are all the lines of Grado cans different?
  9. I saw Between The Buried & Me, Opeth, and Dream Theater play in Boston. It was an awesome show! I actually left halfway through Dream Theater, not such a big fan of them.
  10. I just bought a red sparkling drum set!!! Vintage 1966 Slingerland!! ;D I'm so excited I want to play it now but everyone in my house would be insanely mad, so I won't.

  13. Quick newbie question... Are Headroom products considered fairly expensive?
  14. Bought: Pre-ordered Obzen by Meshuggah and bought Destroy Erase Improve also by Meshuggah I haven't bought much recently though because I have just discovered that my library has an amazing program for borrowing CDs. I can search online to see if any library in my corner of Mass. has a CD and it will be shipped over to my local library and I can pick it up! There's a huge selection and I've borrowed and ripped over 30 CDs in 2 months! Hurray! ;D Some of the borrowed: Set Yourself on Fire by Stars Siamese Dream by Smashing Pumpkins Clap Your Hands Say Yeah by Clap Your Hands Say Yeah Stakes Is High by De La Soul The Low End Theory by A Tribe Called Quest
  15. I fail to understand how a shipping company could be so careless as to damage shipped packages. Shipping packages is what they DO, in fact that's ALL they do. All I have to say is: DUMB.
